does anyone know why it needs the extra hat?

This is the hose from my fuel pump to the lid on the tank. What is the extra hat for? Do I need it? or could I just run one tube from the pump to the pump cover?

I painted mine with Krylon yesterday. I just cleaned it off and roughed it up with some 1000-grit sandpaper. I don't have high expectations for it's resistance to engine heat, so if you want to wait a week or two I'll let you know how it holds up.

I have heard nothing but good things about Kenne Bell. Low boost (<10 pounds) shouldn't require a forged bottom end or anything.
