2010 gt steering shaft clunk

as the title says, i have a clunk when moving the steering wheel from the center 1/4 left or right.

i just installed headers and an X pipe. i had to unbolt the shaft from the rack and the boot from the firewall by the pedals. i made sure to index everything and reinstalled exactly the same way it came out. tightened all the bolts. when driving strait if you slightly move the steering wheel back and fourth in the " dead spot" there is a very prominent clunk from the firewall. I was very careful when disassembling it and installed it correctly. is it possible i damaged the universal joint in the process? the headers are not contacting the shaft or frame. it is for sure the shaft making noise. i had the car off and my wife was moving the wheel back and fourth while i listened.

has anyone experienced this?
