I did a 5 lug conversion on my 86 GT using SN95 parts and 99 PBR calipers. It is impossible to lock up the brakes. I have been told that this is because the booster is too small. I am not sure that a SN95 booster will fit into my car. I have looked at Mat90GT's and Adam Duggers websites and am still unclear if it will fit.
Second. I got my parking brake cables all wired in and am having problems with them as well. Take for instance, I set my parking brake and they work fine, but when I disengage it, my brake pedal goes to the floor. It is weird because then later I can pump the brakes up and they seem to work well. Do I need to bleed my brakes again?
Overall I am satisfied with the conversion, but it seems that the brakes are not all that touchy. What I mean is this. I have a 95 Escort and I put new rotors and pads into the front, and you all know that the escort is no performance machine, but when I tap the brakes the car responds well and comes to a stop very fast. All I have to do it just tap the pedal and the car will let me know that the brakes are engaging, whereas on my Mustang, I have to apply more force to the pedal to get them to respond. Now I have dual pot calipers and high performance pads, and it seems weird to me that my Escort seems to brake better than my Mustang. I just wanted to see what you guys think of this.
The parts I am using are...
SN95 Rotors and 99 PBR dual pot calipers
1985 Lincoln Towncar Master Cylinder
Adjustable proportioning valve
I gutted the stock proportioning valve
rear disc brakes from an SN95 car.
High performance ceramic pads by raybestos all around
