I believe you can research doing anything but once you are into the project you will find many little things that you missed. I am using 96 spindles and gt brakes and all was fine, 96 ball joint will press right into the 89 lower control arm, all 96 brake components work just fine EXCEPT right brake hose has 3/8 thread instead of 7/16 like the left and both of the fox brake hoses. I thought i was going to be forced to buy late model resto's $80 hoses for the swap but my local oreilly auto parts gave me a $2 master cylinder adapter that worked perfect and bolted right in. Just thought i would share this for any one else doing the swap and finding the same problem

I have only owned my car for 10 months now so im new at this, but i had no idea, i returned two hoses to oreillys cause i thought they were made wrong hahaha

Yeup, I had to bend that same brake line and add an adapter. It did stop me in the middle of what I was doing but a quick run to advance Auto and all is well

I converted my '86 back in 2005 or thereabouts. I did a lot of research and scrounged (almost, haha) every part I would need. It was my daily driver at the time and I wanted to see if I could get it done in one day. I would have had it done in one day if I hadn't ran into that snag. It was late and the parts stores were closed.

I snapped a picture way back of the little bag for the part I bought in case anyone else needed it. http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww295/jonny_crash/1994 and 1986/fivelug_zps4a00c665.jpg

The crazy thing is I went to the parts store the next day not knowing what size I needed or what thread type. I didn't even think to bring one of the hoses to try the fit. Amazingly, I picked the right adapter on the first try.
