so my car has the stock 85 watt amplifier. if i get an aftermarket reciever, i know i will need the wiring harness, the instillation kit, but how do i wire it to the amp? do i have to bypass the amp.

my friend has a mach 460 and he had to do something simmilar when he got the 300 dollar alpine.

im not positive but if your mustang came with a premium type stereo (ie mach 460) then yes typically you bypass the factory amp.

If your new head unit has a built in amp, and all new ones nowadays pretty much do, then you have to bypass the factory amp. You can't amplify it off the head unit and then re-amplify through another amp.
