Can anyone tell me what vehicles came with the GT40 tubular intakes? I could have sworn I saw a full sized 150 van at the pick and pull that had one, and I just did not even think it would be the same one. Anyone?
at least one:
1994 Ford Lightning
Conceptualized and developed by Ford truck engineers as the ultimate sport truck, the earliest versions of Lightning were designed to compete against the Chevy 454SS and most sports cars of its day. The driving enjoyment offered is comparable to the performance of the Mustang or Camaro with all the utility of an F150. In its attempt to provide a much more high energy setup than there is in a truck, the engine includes a GT40 tubular intake system and iron GT40 heads, as well as a custom grind on the camshaft, hypereutectic pistons, 65mm throttle body and more.
The explorer lower is the same as the GT40 lower except that the port for the ACT isn't driller and tapped and the port for the EGR coolant return hose isn't drilled and tapped. So performance wise if you had a tubular upper and an explorer lower it would be the same. I ran that set up on my 93 for quite a while.
Now that I think about it, I think it was a '94 truck I saw that upper on. I know there about 5 '96-'97 exploders out there... So I could grab the upper and the explorer lower and that would work?
The 351 GT-40 goes for more money than the 302 version. If you ever come across a lightning in a yard (doubt it though) take the upper and lower. Together then go for $600-800 on ebay.
At least you could sell the lower off and use an exploder lower
