i bought this and tryed to use my laptop but it said serial port not availble. ??

Does your laptop have an working serial port when you click Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Device Manager? If so, is that serial port assigned to a printer, modem or other device?

I've also noticed that many laptops these days come with a default serial port setting of "disabled". You may need to go into the BIOS on your machine and and set the serial port to either "auto" or "enabled". They come that way to free up IRQs for ports that are more commonly used these days. Even with all the crap that we've added to computer capability over the last few years, there are still only 15 interrupts! Go figure. lol
