Mileage chip Q?

If I take the mileage chip off of my old instrument cluster and put it onto my new cluster, will the old one still be functional (say if it had another chip or the original was replaced?

The electronic connection looks like it would be clean, but it is attached to the original board with the OEM plastic bracket...Also, will it make the old gauge cluster non-functional if I decide to put the chip back?

I bought a new gauge cluster and want to keep my original mileage...and would also like to sell off my old one (instrument cluster). But I don't want to start ripping things off...

From what i remember reading is that the mileage chip can be changed into say from my 03 gt to a 99-01 cluster. I believe if you didn't like that cluster you can change it back into the stock and you will be fine. Don't quote me on this.
