torque specs wrong? snapped bolt

i torqued my cam shaft thrust plate bolts to 15 foot pounds like it said in the tutorial i read and i snapped the head off one of the bolts... i managed to get the bolt out after some elbow grease... is 15 ft/lbs too much to torque a bolt like this??? so i know for next time

15 lbs sounds correct to me and much too light to break your average bolt. It is likely that one of your bolts was cracked from years of usage. It's rather odd to get a breakage on the thrust plate though since there isn't a whole lot of force experienced.

Did it break while doing final torquing or while it still had headspace?
