Tranny Rebuild Kit

  • Sponsors (?)

I've heard good things about Astroperformance. They offer a few High Allloy rebuild kits and even build G-force trannys. I talked to them a few times on the phone and they seem to know what they're talking about and are really nice. Good luck to you.

hanlon motorsports has the video. I downloaded the manual too, but found I didn't need it as the video is so good.

you'll need a few special tools, but nothing super expensive (snap ring plyers, etc) I needed a press. you'll find sometimes all the bearings will come off without a press, or maybe not. If you need a press, harbor freight has them cheap, or I'm sure you could take the shaft into a shop.

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

See http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ or http://www.ddperformance.com for parts

A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160. It does not include any gears or shafts.

http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. It costs about $20, and is worth every penny of it.

The rebuild is pretty easy if you have the video. I had a bad experience with the rebuild kit that Hanlon offered. The roller bearings between the input and output shaft were soft... I mean run a file over them and it bit into the bearing soft. As a result my input and output shafts were destroyed in about 10 miles. After testing the rest of the bearings to humor myself all of them were soft... not nearly as soft as the roller bearings though. I may have just received a bad batch of bearings which is understandable but that was my experience with their kit. Good luck

Awesome thread as I will be rebuilding my WC T-5 very soon. Damn 1st to 2nd shift grinds everytime. In my Jegs they have a rebuild kit for 240 are there any cheaper without sacrificing quality?
