Hey i have a black 1990 lx 5.0 thats basically stock. All it has is koni shocks and a 3:73 gear ratio. I was wondering what other mods you guys recommend to up the horsepower and torque. Thanks
You got any money? If not, bumping timing and gears is the best you can do on a stock 5.0 without buying and replacing parts. The gears you have so bump the timing. I was able to run 13.5* and stay on 87 octane. Running 91+ octane isn't worth squat on a stock engine.Hey i have a black 1990 lx 5.0 thats basically stock. Welcome to Stangnet. Please do not post while drunk bro!- better ignition. I installed a Performance Distributors system which was hotter coil, TFI card with longer dwell, and their "live wires" spark plug wires. You can increase spark plug gap. Got a nice bump out of this change
- run synthetic motor oil, that increases hp as well compared to non-synthetic oil

You must have had a bad experience with under drive pulleys. I haven't. I installed mine around 8 years ago and as I indicated in my post, no problems with charging or overheating. Just free additional power.
I'm thinking that some under drive pulley sets have more aggressive ratios than others, that's something to think about.
I have pulleys on my car too, and every other Mustang Ive had, never had an issue during the day, just at night. I guess my cooling system is good enough. I don't drive much at night but when I do, you could tell they affected the charging system. Dim lights, slow signals, weak blower while they are all on sitting at street lights. Ill probably pull them off when I get my car home, that does get on my nerves. We'll see.I've had underdrives on my car for 20 years. I've never had issues.
Granted, I addressed the issues before the problems ever started. My charging and cooling systems are pretty healthy.
