Which Cam Dowel?

Hey im getting ready to put in my FTI Cam and degree it and what not. But i cant remember whether its the long or short cam dowel we need to use. Thanks guys.

I don't remember which one I used John

I just measured the depth of the hole in the shaft and the thickness of the other stuff for the total length needed.

One other thing ......

Don't force the pin in the cam if it is too tight and then realize you need to take it out.

Ok well i used the smaller dowel and it seems to be the right one!

According to the shop manual, it's the one that's 1.125" or 1-1/8" and that's the one I used. I don't know if it makes a difference with a custom ground cam though. I am running an off-the-shelf cam.

The shorter one. The Crane cam that I just installed came with two dowels and the longer one was for pre-1979 blocks.

Crane sent a card with my cam that told which one to use. Unfortunatley, we found the card AFTER we had already put the longer dowel in the cam. Thank God for the grinder.

The shorter dowel is for late model application, the longer dowel stick out past the gear and was used for the fuel pump ecentric in the old models.

The pin should fit tight in the cam, and should be tapped in with a brass hammer.
