with bolt ons, they can run 12s N/A. no nitrous or any power adder. Most that have come from the SN95 like the car, but a few dont. its all subjective to your personal taste. the S197 is smoother, while the SN95s and foxes are more "raw".

a CAI/tune is the number one mod to do to this car. do not wait and waste time with other mods until you do the CAI/tune. you pick up 20-35rwhp depending on which kit and who tuned it.

I have driven both S197s and SN95s. I prefer the S197. I have even driven an 03 mach1, but still prefered my S197,even stock.

I really dont care for the s197 b/c it feels like an import. Soft hydraulic clutch, linkage shifter and the election throttle just are a few reasons I never got one. The car rides well and looks great, speed wise it is .4 faster in the 1/4 mile stock vs stock(13.8 vs 14.2). Its all about feel and if it does not feel right dont get it.

They can make power a lot easier then we can. You add a 93 oct tune, intake and exhaust they will put out 300 rwhp. Then put some 4.10s in them and watch them run in the 12s. If you do some tasteful exterior mods they look good.

I have a 2005 Mustang GT. I have run 13.3 in the 1/4 with just a SCT X-Cal2, SLP LM axleback, MGW short throw shifter and Mickey Thompson 26/11.5/17 ET Street tires. You won't run that quick with a 99+ GT with similar mods. I average 24 US MPG between city and highway. When I am driving near the speed limit, I get 33 US MPG on the highway and pure city is about 17 US MPG.

My car does not have the Shaker 1000 stereo, the auto transmission, the stock wheel locks or the upgrade wheels. It does have every other option though. With a full tank of gas and everything in place( spare, jack, etc. ), the car weighed 3476 lbs without a driver. On the same scale, same day, it was lighter than my friends 2004 5 spd Mach 1. That is what maybe 200 pounds heavier than a similar equipped 2004 Mustang GT with a full tank of gas. I am being pretty generous with that 200 pounds.

Having driven many 96 - 04 GTs and my car, there is no comparison. The S197 is a far more comfortable car for a longer trip. It responds quite a bit better and the ass end doesn't wander on ****ty roads like the older style does.

I am looking for a 4V mustang to add to my collection and I am pretty sure it will be a 99+ Cobra only.

the S197's are technically better cars all the way around. the only things that can really be argued about are the style and feel of the car. personally, the newer Mustangs are almost too refined in my opinion.

thanks guys for all the input

I have had a few Mustangs I've put over 70,000 miles on the 99 GT it had alot on the clock when I bought it about 6 years ago , the selling price was low because of the high milage but that never scared me , I really still like it & have learned alot , had a few problems but I have to say its a nice machine the 4.6 is a pretty good motor & will probally go well into 200,000 mile range ...I had a 5.0 that went passed the clock twice , I change the oil & filter regular , use mobile one & dont beat on it the 99 handles much better & brakes better than the older fox body , I quess I will have to drive this 2008 to see how I like it .... with the bad economy I see some really great deals on new & almost new Mustangs , even Corvettes have dropped in price , I could have had a 2002 Z0 6 for cheap it was sharp so the deals are out there ........ thanks for telling me your thoughts I always ask people how they like what ever there driving I think its the best way to find out the real deal , most people will share there thoughts on what they are driving ...............Mike

the 05+ is better quality and does ride nicer but it feels big to me. I like to be able to reach the passenger door from my seat.

me and my brother will be racing before too long and video it so we will see whats better with the power advantage to him lol

Yeah I like em. But they have to have a certain look. I prefer to see em all jazzed up with the nicer wheels, scoops, stripes etc. Like the Shelbys, Saleens and Roushes. If I were to EVER buy one it would have to be one of those or at least a premium GT with those style parts. Because it really makes that retro appearance look more agressive which reminds me of the way the late 60s to mid 70s era Mustangs looked. The plain ass 05+ GTs and V6s look really lame to me and the stock wheels look ugly. Overall though I don't think they are too bad.

Theyre nicer in pretty much every way, faster, have more potential. ..etc.

The problem is, they dont really feel like a mustang to me.

My 96 gt feels raw...I can feel the road, hear the exhaust, jerk my head off if I want......just feels raw like a supercharged v8 should.

The s197s just feel like a powerfull toyota camry or something

Theyre nice as hell...but just dont feel like any of the previous model mustangs.

They feel like they lost the whole mustang feel.

What is your point?

1) He didn't have a full tank of gas.

2) He has parts that are lighter than their OEM stock parts.

3) He has parts that are heavier than their OEM stock parts.

As I said, full tank of gas, full weight, my 05 Mustang GT was LIGHTER than my friends 04 5 spd Mach 1 with a full tank of gas and full weight. That was on the same scale, same day, right after each other. Both cars at the time were completely stock.

Lets try not start this BS again, he said preferred; can't we leave it at that? If you want to measure your pen0rs then go to a track.

:rolleyes::rlaugh:

One thing that just popped into my pea brain is that I have an '05 Focus also. In '05 they changed the clutch in the '05 Mustangs to a hydraulic clutch. Did they do the same to the 5 speed '05 Focus also? That would explain the reason I can't drive that car for squat. I absolutely hate that clutch. I luv the clutch in my Mach.
