I think my PIP is crapping out and was thinking of getting the summit distributor. It looks really nice and for a great price too. Anybody have one or heard anything about them?
Any opinions on Summit dizzy??

I had the basic Summit one, that was around $170. Absolute junk. I bought it to replace the stock one (stock one wasn't broken, just has been in there quite awhile, so I wanted to do some preventative maintenance), and after 4-5 months, it went bad. Put the stock one back in, all my problems went away, and have stayed away for 8 months!

I have their H pipe in my car and it's great! Perfect fit and no problems for almost a year now...

I'd like to think a dizzy is slightly more important to be functioning correctly than an hpipe regarding fittement.
Most of their stuff is rebranded; but other things have just been utter crap and I don't know where the hell or who makes the junk. The dizzy looks like the always failing Pertronics units with a re-tag.
Cheapo almost always = fail.

Its not like MSD offers much of an advantage LOL
Anyone ever get an autozone replacement? They'd prolly offer a warranty....

Yes, I've gotten one of the parts store replacements and they were all crap! Took me a few tries to get a good one.
Your best bet is to ask for abrand new unit, they'll have to order it but it's actually 6 bucks cheaper than a reman'd unit!

That's a very generalized statement and almost certainly not true.
I've had my Summit Racing 75mm throttle body for 2-1/2 years and it's been flawless. It also looks very high quality (like my Summit dizzy).
Not necessarily. Expensive parts (like the MSD dizzy which is almost twice the price of Summit's) can also fail and sometimes with equal or greater frequency. You'd also be a lot more upset when an expensive part fails.
Sorry, just got around to checking this. I'm assuming it was the PIP. The issue was, when the car was under load, it would backfire like crazy from the exhaust (sounded like popcorn), and it would also stumble at steady throttle (very little load). At first I thought maybe it was pinging, backed timing back to stock, no change. Considered fuel issue, ran some tests, didn't point to anything regarding the fuel system. Swapped ignition components with a friend, until finally I threw in the stock dizzy, and the problem went away.

Your stock unit just hasn't failed yet. It would seem that maybe most, if not all these dizzy manufacturers are getting their PIP sensors from the same source. Probably BWD. I've already discovered that the NAPA brand PIP sensors are in fact BWD units with a NAPA packaging.
I guess our only hope is that Ford's units will still be made by who ever made them originally. After my past year experiences with these pip sensors, DIS is looking better and better!

Yeah, that does sound like the PIP sensor. You do have to wonder who's making them these days.

I have the Summit dizzy on my car, no problems with it yet, I have only ever had great service from Summit, so hopefully the stuff they put their name on it good too.
Somebody has to make it for Summit, not sure who. I have there control arm set on my 94 along with there H pipe. The H was a perfect fit, put it in in the drive way with out any issue. The control arms were the same quality as some MAC's I had before. On somethings like cylinder heads, intakes, distributor, etc... I would save up and buy something a little better. My neigbor has a 750hp Pontiac and when his MSD distributor was acting up it caused all kinds of head aches. X2 on the great service from Summit. Good luck either way you go.

Going a little off topic since I'm having this same issue and it looks like the OP's question has been answered...
Anyway, when your car would start popping/backfiring and kinda "shutter" at cruise speed, did your check engine light ever come on, even for a few seconds then go back off? My car is doing the exact same thing and I've been through quite a few reman'd dizzies lately. It did this a while back to me, then just started to drive perfectly for a long time.. then today on the way to work it started doing the exact same thing again.
