I noticed this evening while removing the aftermarket B&M Megashifter the previous owner routed the cable was through the transmission tunnel brace. In the process of routing the cable, the brace had been cut through and was seperated by a 1" gap give or take in between the spot welds on top of the transmission tunnel. I'm not sure how it is affecting the integrity of the car (it only took me 8 years to find it! ).
I'd like to get some opinions on a repair. The obvious repair would be to seperate the brace from the floor pan and then replace it, however I'm not able to drop the transmission. I would also then have to find an alternative shifter, or move this shifter up 1 1/2 inches, which would put it out of my reach and then I would also have to patch the original shifter hole to remount the B&M. Since the hole is in between the spot welds in the tunnel, I was thinking of trimming the hole, taking some 19" gauge flat stock and boxing the hole on the inside. I would then be able to keep the same shifter location. What do you guys think?
The previous owner also had installed some speakers into the doors. I wanted to try and save these doors, so if they were to be patched, is there a way to replicate the texture on them?
