mach 1

I dont know the answer to this and I'm sure Ford may still be unsure as of right now. However with the success of the current Mach 1 and the appropiatness of it with the 2005 Mustang platform, it seems to be very likely that it will be produced.

Ford didn't call the series of cars the "Living Legends" for nothing, it never was to be a regular production car. The first in the series was the Bullit, then the Mach, and the Ford GT. What's next, the shelby or the Boss? Your guess is as good as mine.............

We just had a mach 1, the se should be something different. Boss perhaps

Boss would be my guess too. Would Ford use another engine like the 5.0 Cammer (Boss 302) or would they use a beefed up version of the new 4.6?
They could bore the 4.6 out to 5.0 but i dont know if Ford would want to do that.

I'm pretty sure they are coming out with a Shelby version. I've heard reports that Carroll Shelby is very interested in working with Ford again due to the new design. He said that the 2005 design is more of a design that he wouldnt mind putting his name on. But I dont know when that would happen.

Ford already does that with the "5.0 Cammer" crate motor.

I say they put the 03-04 Cobra motor in it and call it a Boss 429. The Cobra motor makes right around 429hp at the flywheel(look at the rwhp and do the math). It would be the 1st Boss 429 to run better than low 14's stock.

I wasnt thinking when i posted that. I flat out forgot about the Cammer being based on the 4.6! :bang: But yeah that would pretty cool seeing the Cobra motor in the new Mustangs. :nice:

The 5.0 Cammer, with its 94 mm bore does not meet Ford's durability requirements. The 5.0 cammer also does not meet current 50 state emissions requirements. Ford has said repeatedly that it wil NOT be sold in production street cars.

I have heard rumors that Ford has tested a 5.0L with a 92mm bore and longer stroke to make 5.0L, but no word on whether they will build it and sell it. 92mm is supposedly the largest bore you can use on a mod motor and have it last.

Ford has said that production of the 03/04 Cobra motor has ended and it will NOT be used in any future vehicles. KarKraft is selling the leftover 04 Cobra motors, see their web site.

Funny thing is in the business world when things make money or consumers want a product and therefore create a market for it, plans can quickly change! Rember Fords little plan in the late eighties to make the mustang a fwd four banger, those were solid plans and they changed. Has Ford ever said their will be no Mach 1, no they havent. I'm sure the Mach 1 is at least a major consideration right now and they arent worried that they said it was a limited time thing a few years ago. "Oh we said that we wouldnt make them but for a limited time, guess we cant make it now we'll just have to pass up on that profit."

I agree. To say that there will be no Mach 1 is premature. The Mach 1 was a huge success and as someone mentioned, would be quite appropriate for the new Mustang platform. It might not be the first special edition Mustang, but I think we'll see it on the S197 at some point.

While the Mach1 was a success. Ford could very well look at it as, a SE mustang was a success. Not that because it was a Mach1. It was a success. Yes there could be one somewhere down the road. But if there is, I bet it's at least a few years away.

It would be the 1st Boss 429 to run better than low 14's stock.
Most original road tests I've read had the Boss 429 running mid-to-high 13's stock, at 105-106 mph which was notably stronger on the top end compared to the 428CJ's of the time. The Boss 429's, STOCK, were a touch stronger than the 428CJ. The reason they had a bad reputation of being "pigs" stock, and being a "disappointment" was because there was still so much unrealized and unutilized potential in the motor, and public expectation had been much higher than the mild-cammed undercarbureted version Ford came out with in the Boss 429 Mustang. So a stock Boss 429 Mustang was not some 14-second loafer, but at the same time it was not the low 12 second ZL-1 and Mopar Hemi scorcher that Ford fans had been hoping for. The Boss 429 was an ass-kicking deep breathing race motor, but Ford detuned it so much for the street version that it got a bad rap.

True the name alone did not make it a success, but it did help and the fact that the Mach 1 name carries a lot of image, market strength, and positive history with the consumer and would be continuing an already successfully established model, all of which give it a good business argument. The consumer saw it as the Mach 1 not the SE so I'm sure Ford does not think the Mach 1 was a success soley because it was an SE. Although I don't think it is definate and Ford could choose another name like Boss instead, which I would not be against either. I was simply pointing out how it is definatly not a sure thing it isnt comming back, and that originally saying it was a limited time only model like the Bullit would definatly not stop them from changing their mind if the market was there. They already broke that rule with it when they offered it again in 04 to keep up image of the outgoing mustang platform, but with the overwhelmingly positive response it got whos to say they won't continue to break that rule and make it a staple of the line. It is totally premature to say it will not be showing up. We will probably wait 2-3 years to see a model, regardless of name, between the GT and future SVT or Shelby model, but the Mach 1 has a good chance of showing up again.

While they could break it. I would have to think that they would try another name sooner. The whole idea of having the special editions was to keep interest in the sn-95 models. There is not going to be much of a problem with interest in the 05 and up models. At least not for a while. And while I would like to see a special edition come out. I am not so spoiled on having SE stangs come out. That I think they have to have one.
