If I am driving for a while in 85-95degree heat my transmission gets extremely hot. I can feel it through my shifter knob (Billet Alum.) Its get so bad at time that I cannot rest my hand on the shifter. Is this normal?
it is the articulated rubber boot that goes over the shifter base (under the aesthetic shift boot in the car). if it is AWOL, there is nothing between the underside of the car and your interior besides the aesthetic boot. if you are missing the sound deadening boot, get one (junkyard or resto houses). good luck.
i ran an alum knob on my hurst and it never got real hot unless it sat in the sun. i bought a triax, but used the rubber gaskets from a member on here, i get very little heat from the tranny now.
The console area around the shifter (including the ashtray) gets pretty hot after driving a while. Upon closer inspection, I've found the lower shift boot to be torn in a few places....
I'm going to replace it very soon and hope that takes care of my hot console...
Hey this is my first post, my hurst shifter gets hot on my 87 too, look underneath, i have an x pipe and its about 1-2 inches from the bottom of the tranny and when the exhaust gets hot it heats up the tranny with it
Scott, as im sure you know, that is good advice for anytime the fluid will be changed as well - if the fill plug wont come out, you want to find out before dropping the drain plug.
