I am in the process of putting in a pair of Kicker Comp VR 12's and a Audiobahn A12001DT amplifier in my car. I work at Circuit City and get a killer deal on equipment this month, so now is the time. The question that I need help with is if I put the subs in the trunk will I be able to hear any bass at all when the top is down? Better yet even with the top up? I was thinking about taking out the back seat and putting the subs where the seats were and firing them upward in a sealed enclosure. But if I do this, then it will take alot longer for fabrication. I would really appreciate some convertible owners to speak up here and lead me in the right direction. Thanks.

Oh, and I will be keeping my stock head unit and speakers for the time being.

I have one 10" in an enclosure in my trunk. I can hear it very well with the top up or down. I would suggest installing a seperate volume control to the amp running the woofers. I have to turn mine up a little with the top down.

I have one 1200Q (audiobahn) in the trunk spare tire well and I can hear it perfect. Its 800 watts rms in 2 ohm with my A8000T (also audiobahn). I would be hesitant to mount it in backseat cause people would be more prone to steal it. Anyway, top up or top down, it sounds awesome in my stang.

i too get great sound top up or down, i did ditch the rest of the stock junk also....was drowned out with the top down at highway speed. So i put in an alpine head unit and boston acoustic pro 6.5 all around in stock locations, have a jl 300/4 running those and a 500/1 running 1 12" jl w6 in the trunk...you should be fine with 1 sub in your trunk, you don't want to be cruising around with no spare! not fun if you get a flat.

Ok, with the top down you will hear the bass less, because of increased wind action, less sound dampening, and less medium (the conv. top) for the bass to travel through. Either way, it still sounds good, and its not too dramatic.

I have 2 12" Boss Subs in a custom spare tire enclosure, and it is TOO LOUD, i cannot keep it past 30% Bass boost and like 40% input level, before it is rattling the hell out of my car like a black guy in a 79' Buick! So just so you know, you should have no problems, since you can always just up the bass once you drop the top if you want consistent boom.

Thanks for all the quick responses fellas, I do appreciate it. One other thing, I just went to start fabricating the box and realized that it might be more difficult to put the two 12's in the trunk firing toward the rear. I just need some ideas because I want it to look good, but not take up the entire trunk. What kind of boxes are you guys using? If anyone has pics that would be great.

i use a small sealed wedge style box @ 1.0 cubic feet, it houses a 12", i could easily fit another on the other side of the trunk. I placed my amps in the spot the factory ones came in near the hydrolics for the top. I'd take some pics but i ripped everthing out to have my new top installed. I purchased a prefab box from a local dealer, i just made them carry a few out to my car to make sure i could get them in before i paid.

Here :D I think it looks awesome, plus all i need to get are some speaker grills, and i havent even lost any trunk space. This is the way to go IMHO!
