Well, I have a paper due tomorrow so here I am on Stangnet procrastinating, and I got to thinking about future mods. The day is coming when I buy the stang off my wife's lease (she wants a new jetta, so I finally get a Stang of my own, good bye MINIVAN  )But the stang is a 2000 and she has really kicked the odometers ass. Gonna be 100000 + by the time i get it, and by 150000 (probably by this time next year) the motor will have kicked the bucket. Anyways, I plan on having this thing till the cows come home, and I want a good weekend driver (and whenever its nice, but with ohio weather you never know) and be able to drive the 80 miles to the track and back with no problems. I also know I wanna stick with a modular motor. I guess my question is this, should I get a 5.0 (stroked 4.6) forged longblock from dss racing, buy a 5.4L navigator motor from ford racing, or buy ford racing's 2000 cobra motor assembly (motor, transmission, everything) for 5900 bucks? Supercharger is planned as well, but will come later for sure, no matter what i do. What sounds like the better deal to everybody?

oh, cliffs notes...
should I get a 4.6stroked 5.0 long block from dss, get a 5.4L navi motor from ford racing or the 2000 complete cobra assembly (motor, trans, exhaust all included)from ford racing, all cost about the same, oh and I think im gonna keep the minivan as a daily driver...

if you have a spending limit, the 2000 cobra assembly (same as an 01 cobra motor) will be fine. Let it be known though, if you plan on going the blower route, then the rotating assembly will need to be replaced i.e......rods and pistons. For the money that you will drop in the long run you are better off getting a terminator motor and being done with it!

shoot, i got my hopes up. I doubt you can get a 03 cobra motor assembly for what I have to spend (the install would be done myself, to save money, but still probably wont be enough. Proabably might as well by the cammer for that money, which i dont have!!!) but we can always dream... the 5.4 sounded like a good idea and i was thinking that with the 2000 cobra motor it would be like having a damn new car practically. i mean, motor, computer and all wiring, tranny, everything! but i am not dead set on it... thats why i asked :nice:

I think you would be happy with the 2000 motor. Its a high revving animal!!!

I believe the price for the 03 motor with all the goodies was around 13K. Like you said, the Cammer would be cool too!!!

You can also look for a Mach1, Maruader,Aviator motor. They are all pretty much the same, other than the intake and make more power and tourqe than the 01 Cobra motor. Ive seen them as cheap as $1500.

Do a search here and see if you can find one near you....http://car-part.com/

god to have the money for the cammer  but alas...oh well, we cant have everything. But do you think i would be happy with the gains from the cobra motor? Ive really got the bug since ive started, and hanging out with some big boys ( i married into a racing family, and they have been racing for years, we go to the track all the time but my wife wont let me take the stang out till my name is on the title. They all have fox bodies putting out some crazy numbers and all juice, including my father in law that is building a 427 65 (64? i always forget) that is coller than hell and will be close to 800 hp before the juice) has really got me into it. I wanna work with what ive got though, they keep telling me to buy an old fox body and mod it. however i have to buy this, or the turn over on mileage would kill us, plus this car is nice as hell!I just want something that I can take out and put down some good numbers at the track and keep up with a ws6 (first "race" I ever experienced in a real car was with one of those...wiped the floor with me. I didnt know anything about cars at the time...god have i learned alot in 3 years!!!) Oh, and if i seem like im babbling im sorry, it feels like ive been typing forever!!! im typing this damn paper while im searching around on here...

I think the navigator motor would take more work to put in/get running but as always there's no replacement for displacement:D. But like Dan_Soprano said, if you're going to go supercharged in the future, you'll want to forge the internals. What would be the price difference in forging a cobra engine or buying something like a terminator and building it up (I'm presuming the Terminator is a shortblock?)

:stupid:

i may go this route myself after i grenade the 2v

in the most recent edition of mm&ff (or 5.0 &super fords, i cant remember) they talk about a 5.4l swap into a gt and said that the amount of custom fab is minimal, and that the motor would bolt right in, and up to the existing tranny as well. did i read that wrong? I plan on getting a cowl hood anyway, so i dont see that as a problem...

It is true that a 5.4 swap isnt all that difficult and many stock 4.6 parts can be used. On that peticular car the owner somehow made a Cobra upper intake work with a Lightning lower. Im sure that is not a direct bolt on.
If you use intake adapters you can reuse the factory 4.6 intake.
