Started running hot all of the sudden...

I was driving two days ago and I missed a shift and it revved pretty high. Usually the temperature gauge was between 'O' and 'R' in NORMAL, but after revving it that high, it went up to 'A'. So I drove home and it was still running pretty hot, around 'A'. The next day I start it up and drive around and after a couple minutes of driving it was at 'M' and now it stays around RMA all the time. Why is the car running hotter? Is it possible somehow an air pocket go in the system? Also the fan turns on but I don't know if it's supposed to turn on all the time when the engine is hot or just for a couple minutes, because it's only on for a minute or two and then shuts off, and then turns on a couple minutes later. I have a 180 degree thermostat that was installed last year when I did a fluid flush. It worked fine until now.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but an overrev and then running hot sounds EXACTLY like you've got a headgasket problem.

Check to see if you are getting coolant in your oil and if you are getting white smoke from your tail pipes.

Hopefully the higher temp has nothing to do with the missed shift. As always, be sure to check your coolant level and circulation.

Coolant level is fine, and there appears to be no coolant in the oil. Also I didn't hit the rev limiter on that rev, I probably only went up to 5000 rpms. I haven't revved it that high though since I installed the T5 transmission (had an AODE before).

5k is nothing. when you rev it to 7k then we'll talk. i thinks its the weather. if you think that something is not right, i would put a manual fan switch in there first off.

The stock temp gauges are a joke man. The same thing happend to me and i freaked out thought i blew a gasket or something. I bought an autometer gauge, and guess what temp is just fine. Also even though u have a 180 stat our fans dont turn on until 210degrees so it will run hot no matter what.

FWIW, anything over 90* ambient temp-wise makes the car run hotter (less temp delta, rejection, etc). it is a noticable jump.

good luck.
