speaking of this...before I do an extensive search is it an easy swap from my POS 3650 to T-45 or is there a better option that is quick, cheap, and direct? Like searching for a used trans.

yea. i'd like to know why the 3650 is a POS? sure some have a grind problem, but mine doesnt and it takes the 500ft/lbs of torque i put through it just fine...doesnt show the slightest sign of grinding, clunking, notchiness...is smooth and perfect...

the 3650 may have the 1-2 notchiness, but its still a rather strong tranny. i know it took a lot of abuse from me while learning to drive a 5-speed. several missed shifts trying to go into third the first few weeks. its no TKO-500/600 or T-56, but its not a bad tranny.

If you bolted a 3650 shifter up to it, then it is a 3650. The shifters are not interchangable.

To find out for sure, look on the drivers door. Under TRANS you'll see a letter. K is the symbol for the 3650. If it's another letter than that's thje T-45.

The t-45 may shift better, but the 3650 is a stronger trans

Yes the 3650 is a work horse and can take an incredible ammount of power and abuse while still living a long life afterwards. Although it is kinda crap for a daily driver. Noisy, quirky, and somewhat touchy. I am not happy with it for my street car. I wish the T56 was a cheaper option or even the TKO. Yes, just look at that outrageous 50 page post. I can't even get through it. I get so damn angry becasue I have all those problems and the dealer and Ford have been completely uncooperative. Now I am out of warranty and screwed. Atleast I can score them for cheap.

YES CLASS ACTION AGAINST FORD OR TREMEC FOR THIS POS!!!

id take the 3650 over a 4r70 anyday of the week. its sad that stronger more capible trannies with actual feel for them get bashed by people who like a car that has no feedback whatsoever. i love the shift feeling in my 3650, it lets me know where im at at all times. i just drove my buddies 06 wrx, and that thing is a slushbox, i couldnt tell where i was at or if it ever went into gear, zero feedback, too smooth of a car for me, i like a car thats rough around the edges.

are you asking this because you are experiencing a problem? if it bolted up and shifts, you got it right. like already posted, they arent interchangeable. did you adjust the bump-stops any? i had to on mine, even though the 3650 has them built in, i adjusted mine for added insurance, cause i like to bang gears with authority.

:nice:

I hear ya. One of my buddies has an 03 WRX, i have driven his also and agree... its worse than my hondas were. I owned an 01 Civic coupe 5 Speed, and an 03 Civic Si 5 Speed. They had some feel to them. Not as much as our trannys or any RWD for that matter, because they were cable shift. but they had more feel than that Subie.... And did you notice how long the throw was?:rlaugh: it was worse than a stock stang imo....

:hail2:

It is not a matter of feedback. True I do like smooth but not like the rice. I think mine shifts smooth for the most part, real smooth. My issues all have to due with the damn whine, pop, rattle and grind. I like the way the trans shifts and another funny thing it fixes itself. No ****, I'll have an issue with it for a week or a day then it magically goes away. Weird! Sometimes they resurface sometimes they don't. Freaky!

Anyways the only thing driving me crazy now is the whine, although it is getting better too (I think becasue of the cold front) :) I am gong to try the synchromesh next oil change...

aside from going through clutches(think I had a bad run from FORD) I've had zero issues with my TR-3650

I think for the most part, if you switch to a solid clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster you'd notice a significant difference in shifting...while this wont necessarily cure some people's grinds and clanks, it should make for a more bearable experience.

Me? I wuvs my TR-3650 :)
