o2 siezed, looking for removal tricks.

i have a siezed o2 sensor and i've done just about everything besides taking a torch to it to remove it. i fear i could mess up the bung if i use a torch, maybe someone can tell me a good way to do it with a torch so that i dont? anyone have any suggestions?

i've done a large wrench...(with cheater as far as i can go before rounding). also used tons of penetrating fluids.

Also the threads on the other side are a little messed up...the new o2 sensor i have wants to thread in sideways. anyone know the thread specs on the bungs on a stock/offroad hpipe? so that i can rethread or chase the threads.

If you are just using a propane torch, there's no way you can screw up the bung, it won't get hot enough. Just take a propane torch and get the bung as hot as you can. Then put your wrench on it, apply pressure, and slowly but steadily increase the amount of pressure you are putting on it. That way you avoid rounding it. Heat can do amazing things when you have a stuck nut/bolt/o2 sensor.

acutally i used a propane torch, but i was under the car and it was awkward. i guess i can give it a go again. i do have access to a cutting torch but i can change the handle to use it for heating up.

Heat the bung with a torch, then pour ICE cold water over the O2 sensor. The sudden change in temp will cause the O2 sensor to shrink a few thousands of an inch. Be ready with the wrench to take advantage of the shrunken O2 sensor, because it won't stay shrunken for very long.

managed to get the hpipe out by cutting the o2 sensor off...now it should be a lot easier removing whats left. thanks for the input guys.

I guess I missed something. I disconnected the electrical connectors and removed the pipe. Then I could fart around with the O2's with the pipe out of the car.

for anyone having problems and trashed the bung, they sell replacement bungs on summit you just weld on.

shops often stock them too.....I bought a Matco o2 sensor wrench....works awsome

i have a o2 sensor socket...it has a split down it for the wire. because of the split it warps on the seized o2s.

the o2 sensor spot on my o/r hpipe happens to sit so that i can't easily access the header nuts. but on the stock hpipe it wasn't a problem. im hoping i can just chase the threads and fix the issue without welding in new bungs.

I just use the box end of I think a 7/8ths(i think) wrench. The connector slides right through the hole in the wrench and I get a good grip on all the sides of the O2.

It's incredible the difference between cheap tools and expensive tools. They look the same, but the expensive ones don't warp or distort. Not long ago I tried 3 or so flare-nut wrenches on my brake line, and they all tried to stretch and round it. Finally I went and borrowed a snap-on one from my friend, and it worked awesome.

Too bad I'm too poor to buy a nice set of tools.
