How to keep brake rotors clean?

So? Like the title says? How do you keep them from rusting due to the brake dust? It seems like every time I wash my car, they rust. I try to get in there as good as I can with a brush, but it doesn't seem to matter.

drive it around the block. that cleans the new rust deposits off of the brakepad area. if you are talking about the rest of the rotor, you need to get plated rotors.

They're not rusting because of brake dust. They're rusting because they are uncoated cast iron and water and moisture makes them get some surface rust. Driving around the block, like BigCat said, will get rid of the rust on the braking portion of the rotor.

I knew that I could get aftermarket zinc coated ones and that would fix it. I was just wondering if there were any tricks or products you guys all used when you cleaned them to keep it from happening. Currently, I just drive about 50 ft or so and brake then come back.

Only thing you could really do is pull them off and paint them with a high temp paint. That should keep them from rusting on the none braking surfaces.

im not having that problem on the non braking portion of the rotors, mine seem to be coated or painted on the hub and edges of the rotors where the pads dont hit. on the braking surface i get the rust but it comes right off with a drive around the block. is my car special or something? it had 9000 miles though, maybe this coating wears off eventually?

I worked in a cast iron foundry for 5 yrs and bare iron will rust when
wet, cant get around it, law of nature.
You could take a scotch brite pad and scrub the rust off and when you
wash the car avoid getting the wheels wet. use a wet rag to clean them instead.

Mine has the same silver coating/paint. Never had a rust problem on my rotors in any other place then the braking surface.

yeah mine does it real bad...put it away on a Tuesday and by Wednesday afternoon they will be covered in rust...just gonna have to drive it ALL the time The only thing that will stop them from rusting (other than replacing them with zinc coated rotors) would be to spray or rub on some mineral oil or something like that. Mineral oil coats the metal and prevents oxygen getting to the metal and oxidizing, I have no idea if that would effect the stopping ability (adding a lube) to the rotor so I would not recommend it, besides it would be a pain in the arse...it would be less of a hassle to drive it around the block and let your brakes scrape off the rust.
