short throw shifter for 06?

  • Sponsors (?)

I have a Hurst Short throw exactly like the one in the Shelby Gt's. I bought mine for $199 and paid my local speed shop $75 for the install. I personally love it. I love the sound it makes, the feel, and of course the performance.

My Mustang is a 07, but I'm fairly confident that the shifters are all the same for 05-07's.

Buying a Hurst is like buying the bottom of the shelf bagged imitation luckl charms. Buy the real deal, MGW or Steeda. I have the Steeda, love it! MGW can't justify the price.

Only a slight increase in the in cabin noise, however it is no big deal. Very little vibration and gears click in with ease. Hurst is crap, always has been, even C&D trashed it last month.

paid 260 from steeda, they also put it on for 160, couldn't find a shop down here I trusted so I let Steeda do it, which at 160 is a rip but I rather have it done right.

ps. Just skip the hurst if you want to spend little money and get the short throw kit from Saleen, it's the same dam thing bascially for little money.

Ya right

So "Hurst is crap"? "Alway's has been"? They were building shifters before you were born bone head! :nonono:

Steeda Tri-ax is a nice shifter. MGW is getting rave reviews. Both are pricy. Hurst can't be too bad. I like the look of it the best, and the price is lower. My best advice is to got to a gathering and check them out in person. I'm sure the owners wouldn't mind showing them.

Also- Installing a shifter is not too hard. If I can do it, anyone can. Most come with instructions and you can also find detailed how-tos here and elsewhere.

I've been running a Pro50 and I've loved it since day one. It is basically the same as the Steeda (identical?). I have mine for sale since my wife bought me a different brand to try out. Here is the ad for mine incase you're interested:

That's a good deal. You must be sold on the new shifter then. Which one are you using now?

Hurst isn't crap! Hurst is cool. I have a Hurst and love it. I'm sure the others mentioned above are really nice but so is the Hurst. Plus it looks alot cooler.IMO And anyone with any common sense at all could install a shifter. To pay someone else 160 bucks says alot about what someone might know or might not know about shifters. IMO

I could do it myself or go to the 3 strip clubs in walking distance of Steeda and have them do it, because if it rattled, I'd have them rip it out. Wasn't taking chances. All the other race shops down here didn't inspire confidence.

BTW hurst doesn't look any better, just buy a different shift knob for 20 bucks, lollllllllll

Hurst is crap, has been for a long long long time. The old hurts in the fox bodys rattled like hell and shifted like ****. Buy the saleen short throw kit instead of the hurst.

here we go again.... do you have any PERSONAL experience with a hurst shifter? if not, then why are you commenting on it? :Zip2:

i have the hurst and i am satisfied with my purchase. is there a better option out there? might be. am i willing to spend more money to find out? no. do i have any regrets or problems with my hurst shifter? no. would i buy the hurst again? absolutely!

a different shift knob does not complete the package like the handle and ball. the hurst is just so fitting of the retro look, i love it.

Hey Barbarino, post some pics of your supposed ride. Stop being so critical of everyone's opinions and mods. It is getting old quick bro. You could easily mention which product you like the best without intentionally slamming someone else's ride. :nono:

I've driving a stang with the hurst, a new one and a fox body, it's crap. I had the old power tower in my 5.0, now that thing was sweet! Too bad the new trannys suck compared to the old ones in terms of banging gears.

The best short-throw shifter hands down is the MGW. I just checked http://www.steeda.com and http://www.mgwltd.com for the prices. The Steeda Tri-Ax is $279.95, the MGW is $295.00 and that little price difference is worth it to buy the MGW.

The biggest problem with all of the short throw shifters except MGW's is that they have adjustable stops, the MGW does not unless you request them. These extra stops are bad because the TR3650 has built in stops. People are bending shift forks with after-market short throw shifters because of the extra stops their shifters have. If the stops are properly adjusted on the shifter, does it matter? I don't know but am not taking the chance to find out.

I had a brand new Steeda Tri-Ax that I never installed and sold. I have a MGW shifter and I can tell you there is a difference in quality just by looking at the pieces you get.

What sold me on the MGW is that my buddies 04 Mach 1 has one. I liked it in that car and I test drove an 03 Mach 1 with the Steeda Tri-Ax that I was thinking of buying. In those cars, the MGW was nicer.

I have a B&M in my Escort (LOVE IT), but got a MGW for my Mach1, and after just driving into work today I am in love, I wish they made one for my escort.

The Hurst design didnt do anythgin for me, never used it though. I have no reason to say they are bad.

I haven't driven with an MGW, however, Steeda shifter is over 3 years old, there is nothing to stay the stops are bad. I would say though if you did put the steeda in, use the dynamat mgw supplies. My tri axe was 259, not sure if prices went up over the past month.
