well he took me in a ride in his 02 GT that is a 5 speed, it has K&N, x-pipe, and flow, and it felt noticably faster than my auto 05 GT, is a lightly modded 02 GT suppost to be faster than a 05 GT??

It shouldnt be. Does he have a new rear gear like a 3.73 or a 4.10? I had a 99 GT with a 3.73 and exhaust, and it was great until I got to drive a bone stock 06 GT. Getting back in my car felt like driving a Geo Metro. His car is only rated at 260 hp, so you should have a pretty good amount of hp on him.

He must've had gears or something. I raced a lightly modded '03GT the day I got my '05 and smoked had 2 car lengths on him before I reached the end of 2nd gear. If he didn't have gears, then your mind was playing tricks on you. For 1/4 mile, the SN95 was rated at 14.1 with a professional driver. The S197 is rated at 13.5 with a professional driver.

When I rode in my friends 05 5 speed gt it felt really slow.

The car just doesnt feel like its accelerating fast for whatever reason.

I think it has to do with the fact that its heavy and more stable I guess...I didnt like it at all.

I have a friend with a 07GT and it felt to be as fast as my stock 5.0. I know the 07 is much faster but its so smooth it's hard to tell. When he drove my car he said it was faster but I know that its not. :(

I think it's different when you ride in someone's car than actually drive it. I think it's just you. Your 05 gt is geared pretty well 3.55's stock in the 05's to his 3.27's. even with those mods he has, he still has to play catch up to your hp, but he's not that far behind. Maybe he had gears? 4.10's or 3.73's either one will get that car up and rolling. Ask if you can drive his car then you will be able to tell if his car really is a little faster than yours but I doubt it with the mods he has (you described), unless he is one hell of a driver. Race him at the tracks and see where he and you stand:nice:

The S197 chassis is more refined and feels slower than the SN95. Automatics often feel slower than manuals. How it feels and how it really plays out at the dragstrip are often quite different, though.

I've owned a 2000 Mustang GT Coupe (manual), 2003 Mach 1 (manual), and 2007 Mustang GT Coupe (automatic), so I can tell you from experience that the SN95's felt faster than my 07. OK, the Mach 1 was faster, but the 2000 GT felt quicker even though it wasn't.

I flogged all three Mustang frequently at our local 1/4 mile dragstrip. The '00 GT ran consistent 13.90's and 14.00's with just 260hp, 3180 lbs, and 3.27 gears. The '07 GT runs consistent 13.30's and 13.40's with 320hp, 3450 lbs, and 4.10 gears.

Now, take a stock S197 GT AT with 300hp and 3.31 gears, and it'll run high 13's in the 1/4 mile. A lightly modded SN95 GT Manual ought to run mid 13's or better. So, dbrufus1234, if this is like your scenario with your friend, then his car is likely faster than yours, but not by much.

Add a custom tune/4.10s and drop some weight(seats/spare removal)depending on location/weather and traction, you're looking at a 12 second car:nice: My best with weight reduction and horrible 330' traction was 13.109.

The "feeling' of fast can be so deceiving. I know my cobra occasionally seems "slow" until I look at the speedo, or pick up my time slip

My friends asked me which car I would make love to and to that I responded.

"A terminator because when I get on her I can't get off, and when I mat her she screams.":rlaugh:

The one thing I want out of my 05 is the same screaming noise of your termy.
