I hear Patriot makes heads now for the Ford 5.0. I'm building a 331 right now and was going to go AFR 185's with updated hardware but now I hear Patriot is making a good ford head for nearly half the cost. Anyone know about this? I wonder how it performs.

there was a thread on this a few weeks ago. as i recall the heads were inconsistent in their quality, as htey were made in china. but dont quote me directly, do a search.

:D And remember they have the "extra thick" .400" decks for turbo and blower applications...............................................................................................................This is always preferable over other "name brand" heads with inferior .625-.750 decks.:rlaugh:

Yup.

At last years Monday Night Football game on 9/11 they passed out US flags to all ticket holders (70K or so) guess where the tags said they were all made. If the fans understood the irony their heads might explode.

i'm not saying i would buy them just saying they aren't the same company. personally, i'll either be using Edelbrock, Ford Racing, or AFR heads on my car. most likely the Ford Racing heads since they have exactly what i want.

Do I find it funny that patriot heads are cast in china? YES I do! Even though almost all heads have parts that are outsourced, the fact that they named their product patriot is insulting and insidious.

Again, I think some afr 185's with updated hardware is what I'll do. Again for the price of patriots, it puts them into a whole new category. Like "the clunker division" in racing. What's a clunker division? It doesn't exist, it's what my friend made up to compensate for his 16 second 1/4 mile track times.

I had contacted the company a few months ago. Castingings are done in china. they are machined in the U.S. The few articles if seen on heads that are made for Patriot gave good reveiws. They do have thick decks etc. They are quick and very friendly to talk to. The bad rep seems to come from factory heads they modified, that's why they started having castings made to their specs. I decided to go with a cleveland or I would have used these heads. Shoot them an e-mail before you make up your mind.
Every since the free trade agreement, you can't hardly find much that isn't made over seas. Boeing, Frieghtliner, Delta, space station, etc. Imho, I spend my money for the best bang for the buck. The arf heads are great heads, but if you aren't racing I'd rather have the 600 bucks to spend on other parts.

To be honest, I might try them if I was really strapped for cash. Then again, if I was really strapped for cash, I wouldn't be building an engine. Instead of settling on iron heads, I held out an got the Performers I have now. Everything is Heli-Coiled, too; not even AFR does that.

I know it's not regarding Patriot heads, but there is a place called Rhea Performance that is going to start producing a less expensive performance 2.3 iron head(So far all others are aluminum or ported stock castings). The pictures they put up of the initial castings showed Chinese newspapers in the background. I was pretty turned off by that. :notnice:
