just remember, there is not replacement for displacement
Labor alone for a 5.4L swap will cost over $2K. If it was such a bang for the buck more ppl would've gone this route.
I'd just wait a little longer and save up for a Vortech.
5.4 swap is just plain ignorant!
hang around enough, and it seems like every 2 years or so you see somebody try to brag about the 5.4 swap they have done. Ive seen it for years, and its the same old story, and then you see those that have no idea jump on the band wagon and act like they know what they are talking about.
actually i do know what i was talking about what makes you think that i am a complete dumbass... i have read, done my research, and talked to several guys that have done it... but please enlighten me and the rest who care to know why i am ingorant (or the swap), why you continually call me a newb, and why you keep on assuming that i know diddly **** about what i was talking about!
i stated my opinion on what he could do and you jumped down my throat for it...
but another good idea is the gears, exhaust, and better suspension.. that should make you happy
BTW... a basic 5.4 swap with a tune normally yeilds 50hp/tq over a tuned NA 2v 4.6 even when hamstrung with adapter plates. Yeah...that's nothing huh.
I have a stock 2000 Mustang GT with the 4.6 V8. What's the best way to get more horsepower out of the engine? My budget is $1000-$2000.
It's not urgent...I'm just looking for some ideas for a summer project. I'd like to know what you guys think. Any ideas would be appreciated.
ok, show me one person that has their car up and running with a 5.4 swap, including labor, headwork, cams, tune, etc. or whatever they have done for 1-2k, if your mechanic, maybe, but obviously this guy proboly isnt, so I want to see it......
hi, nice to meet you
Agreed, this swap isnt for most people but anyone that wants to add a buttload of torque or there 4.6 is tired and needs to come out, this is a very feasable option.A 5.4L swap to me is just plain too much time and money.... You're pretty much re-inventing the car.
too much money? I have less than a grand in EVERYTHING. re-inventing the car? You pull the 4.6 out, trim one of the headers, install the adapter plates and put the 5.4 in. Then you make one cut on the h-pipe and weld in a 2" section. DONE. Honestly if you can change a clutch then you can do a 5.4 swap in one of these cars, reinstalling the trans is the hardest part of the install.
You've already got a nice stock powerplant in your '00 4.6L... Just do bolt-ons, gears, and strap a supercharger on it, and you'll have yourself a pretty fast Mustang without breaking the bank.
