yea they just need to fail they have done it to their selfs the average assembly plant worker make 74-78 dollars an hour while the ceo of ford make 20million jus a comparison the ceo of toyota makes 1 million so that goes to show how far out of reality the big 3 Aare

ive been to both oshawas gm truck plant, and the chrysler car plant in recent years. i also worked at the honda plant in alliston, and letm e tell you the difference between the working conditions and processes/line speed is somthing else. the honda one moves much faster, all processes are closer together and the honda cars dont stop to do the processes. not that im saying they work their people harder or anything, as i have never worked at the gm truck or chry car plants, nor am i saying that the honda plant is more efficeient, (some trucks [used to e all] are also made at the car plant) just saying it appeared that way when i saw it. honda is also non union.
nor am i making any statments about the quality / or likefullness of the products

oh and when i was a little kevin2m4 a neighbour of mine had an amc eagle woody, and it was wicked in the snow.

The union protects crappy workers and does hardly anything for hard workers this day and age. Working conditions, wages, and fairness are totally different now plus there are much better labor laws and people in place to make sure workers are taken care of now. I am not against unions either I just think that at some point people need to swallow their pride and do what is needed to aid in helping the economy. Helping the economy would infact be takeing a small hit to make sure that over 22 million(that is around 13% of the total U.S. workforce) dont lose their jobs.

Do you think for a second that the union workers will continue to prosper if these companies go down? No way in hell, when you lose every bit of benefits you have and damn near every town that a automotive facility is built in turns into a ghetto. Laced with crime and poverty, this is not a imaginary thing. This is what will happen. The general population will be shifted more towards a 2nd or 3rd world countries way of life. Americans need to stand up and do what they can to help. Not money wise but economic wise, buy American. Not just cars but everything they can. Invest in us not them and the return will be great.

Coming from a person that is a born American that has lived elsewhere in the world. The amount of people in this country that are willing to give up and not invest in the betterment of our own nation is startleing. I lived in Japan for 2 years and they are all about Japan before anything else. Everything from their auto industries to their simple small shops in and around town. They put huge tax marks on imported goods like cars persay, A Mustang being $25,000 over here is going to cost you near $40,000 or more over there. I remember when I was there and I seen a Harley Davidson on a lot for over $30,000. I was shocked.

So the workers don't deserve pensions and benefits after putting their years in?

Great idea, lets eliminate the union, hire a bunch of wetback *****s from the home depot parking lots, pay them crap with no benefits so all the profits go to the greedy corporate guys :notnice:

Anti-union people never cease to amaze me at how jealous they are that other people make more money than them and have better benefit packages ;)

whatever happened to just working hard and taking care of yourself???

the unions are the reason they are going to go bankrupt. but its ok... now that piece of **** we elected president is gonna give my money to a bunch of union a-holes who cant run a business? thats an awesome idea... give my money away so union workers can have their pride? i dont think so

i am a non union electrician and i make just as much if not more as a union worker in the same position, and i dont have some union leader son of a bitch telling me who to vote for. im not jealous of any union worker, i do better work and can save my own money responsibly without a pension or the government. hats off to my company for putting the unions under in our area we take jobs out from under them because they over charge.

Here is my take on the whole situation.

No one side, labor or management, can take all the blame for the state of the domestic auto manufacturers. There is going to have to be some serious concessions made on both side if they want to get through it. Running the UAW out would not magically make the automakers problems go away. There are serious issues with the business philosophies. That said the UAW really needs to look the big picture. Take a small hit now or a big hit down the road. No one wants to have a cut in pay or a reduction in benefits but if GM/Ford/Chrysler go into chapter 11 they can pretty much kiss their contracts goodbye. And more than likely their goes the pension, healthcare and a big cut in wages. This is where the UAW can step up and help out.

On the flip side one of the big reason they are in trouble is the drop in sales due to high fuel prices and then the slide in the economy. The domestics have pretty much survived over the past few years on the sales of trucks and suvs. That has been their bread and butter. There has been no foresight on managements part in looking into the future and planning for the "what if" scenarios. This isn't a fault of the union but rather managements'.

I have a big problem with just handing them $25 billion with out changes being made on both sides of the table. And right now both sides seem to be playing the "if we fail look at all the jobs that will be lost" car instead of making concessions and changes to save themselves. That kind of arrogance makes me almost say let them fail. But right now there are too many jobs that will be affected. They need help but not without major changes in how they operate. If neither side will make concessions then let them fail.

BTW I am a union electrician. I guess things are different in other parts of the country but we don't have anyone browbeating us and telling us who to vote for. Our benefits are way above what the non union sector gets and our pay is pretty similar. I have worked as an apprentice, journeyman, foreman and superintendent so I have seen things from lots of different perspectives. I have seen guys who cared only about getting a check but almost all of the guys that I have worked with truly cared about giving "eight for eight" and did excellent work. I have always thought that once a job is completed you work is the only thing that can speak for you. So what do you want it to say? So do not lump all union workers into one category and think that they are all lazy and trying to get out of work. Every group has their problem children both union and nonunion. I always knew who they were in out local and they usually spent most of their time out of work. I'll step off the soapbox now.

Anyways if the manufacturers and the UAW make some serious changes then I say help them out. If they are so stubborn and arrogant that they won't change then let the free market economy determine whether they will survive or fail.

I'll be getting a pension and I can get involved in the deferred compensation plan. I have not signed up for that yet though. With the way the economy is, i'm in no rush to sign up for it, but when I do i'll be starting off small :)

Would never work non union :notnice:

The unions are one of the top 3 reasons that the Big 3 are struggling now. The other 2 are the oil crisis, and yes there is a crisis weather its in the form of ( lack of production or inflated prices at the pump ) and the fact that the import companies like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda all put out beter cars at better prices. Hell even the likes of Hyundia, Kia, and Susuki have improved quality enough to make the cheapest cars in the market a reliable purchase. All of these companies that have plants or operations in the USA contibute greatly to our enconomy, and they treat their employee's with good wages and benifits, but they also make their workers understand that it is the individuals responsiblity to organize thier own retirement. Most companies work this way in the USA.

I work for the largets printing company in the world, and the unions have been trying to get in for over 20 years now. Of our competitors who have already gone under or are on the verge of colapse, the Unions played a very big part in this also. We have no Union in our company and occasionally the topic comes up which is always met by hatred toward the unions. I mean why have 2 sepaerate people control your work life. Wether you want to except it or not, you are just as sub-servient to the Union as you are your own employer, and there for in less control than you might think.

They have already been given money once and blew it.

Do you really think that the CEO's and other upper-management of the big three would take a salary cut. If they did resturants where they have $8,000 lunches would go out of business. :nonono:

I do not know if this is true or not but I heard that line workers make $73 an hour, if so can I still get one of these jobs? It's more than I make.

Besides the reason Ford is losing is because they have no horsepower. No offence to new Mustangs or anything, but it is true.

Am I really supossed to be impressed with a 211 hp Fusion when all the other cars in it's class have a minimum of 240hp two years ago?:notnice:

I do have new Mustang issues too. Where is my 6-speed as standard equipment on the GT? Why does the V6 still have single exhaust when most front drive imports have duals?

It seems to me that it would cost less money to produce 1 bumper cover and slap a GT or V6 badge on the trunk lid than to produce two bumper covers. It would make the V6 look and sound sportier. But what do I know anyway.

STOP YOUR UNION BASHING AND NO WE DON'T MAKE 73 BUCKS AN HOUR.NON UNION JAPANESE PLANTS MAKE JUST AS MUCH AND IN SOME CASES MORE THAN UNION WORKERS CHECK IT OUT.the union workers have sacrificed enough it is poor management that has the companies in dire straits.
