exhaust installed, little disappointed, need advice

I just got my MAC longtubes, MAC o/r prochamber, and borla stingers installed and i must say i really like the tone of the exhaust but it isnt as loud as i hoped overall since i dont have the cats anymore. When i at WOT it sounds amazing and is pretty loud but at cruising speeds and a normal acceleration im not as satisfied as i hoped.

When watching youtube and reading posts about everything i thought the prochamber was really good. After buying it when i would continue reading forums i saw a couple people say they think the prochamber was too quiet for them. i started second guessing myself if i went the right way.

My question is would an o/r X or o/r H be better for me. I still want it to sound good but i want it to be loud. from earlier readings i remember something about since its the borla muffler is a straight through design to not go with an H. I would like it to rumble though and that comes with more with the H than an X. Im not opposed to the X pipe if it will still sound pretty good and be louder. Please list your opinions.

Im only looking to change my mid-pipe though. If you think that there is something else that might be a problem that i can fix myself to maybe make it louder like maybe an exhaust leak let me know. Also if you have heard my setup in person and think that it is loud compareable to other exhaust and i just have wishful thinking let me know that too. With just changing the mid-pipe i would do the install myself.

Sorry for the long post i just wanted to let you know of everything i know about the topic so you can better inform me. thank you.

Stingers are fairly loud mufflers.

I would say it's the prochamber holding you back, it kind of acts like a mini-muffler.

An X pipe would sound SICK with that setup in my opinion, and Prochamber's usually sell for a bit more than an X or H pipe so you could probaly break even, or even put a little cash in your pocket if you decided to sell it.

I'm running an X pipe with chambered mufflers (MAC), but I wouldn't want to run an H pipe with straight through mufflers. That is just my opinion though...:nice:

L/T headers will quiet down ANY mid pipe and cat-back. Shorties are louder.

MAC's Prochamber will quiet any header combo and cat-back. H's and X's are louder.

Here is my notchback with a 2001 4.6L engine, stock manifolds, BBK o/r H-pipe, and MAC 2-1/2 cat-back with the big 3-1/2" tips. The donor car I bought was a 2001 GT with L/T's, Pro chamber, and this same catback....I got rid of everything but this catback....and in the donor car it was much quieter.

Before car was done...excuse wheels and no front bumper...lol

On dyno...inside car...and yes....that's a 2001 dash swap too.

PIC to prove I have a 4.6L in my old notchback

I think if u put an or x on u will be severly dissapointed. It makes the exhaust really raspy and I bet right now u have a good rumble. Give it time for the mufflers to break in and get loud. Then see if u want to swap.

As others have said the X will make it sound way too raspy. If anything go with a H pipe or just get some SLP loud mouth 1s. My car is plenty loud with the magnapacks (very similar to the stingers) and the MRT-catted H.

are you catted or non-catted....because i have a non-catted x-pipe with chambered mufflers (flowmaster super 44, and before that the mac's) and i feel the exact opposite way.

Catless. It's different, but I like it.

I'm not a fan of 40 series Flow's with a catless X pipe though, even though them and the Mac's are chambered, the Mac's sound alot better with an X in my opinion...:nice:

The mac prochamber sounds great while WOT though is a quiet setup at idle and cruising speeds. It's the best midpipe I have used on my car as of yet and I plan to stick with it.

Give it a while to see if the sound grows on you, being the loudest isn't always the best ;)

i've always thought that LT's are louder. there's more air flow and they're bigger which should equal louder, right?

Nope....

Stock loudest

Shorty quiet

Long most quiet

Pretty sure it's something to do with the way the air is routed to a collector?

My SLPs sounded like ASS until I installed my T/Ls... it toned the exhaust down just enough to make the setup sound good.

i agree, taking out the cats makes the most difference in terms of making it louder, there is increased airflow. same w/ LT's, more airflow, should be louder too. say if you blow thru a trumpet, then blow harder, it's louder. the best test would be the same car, same mods, just change the headers from shorty to LT's and see which is louder. just seems that more air going thru makes it louder.
