Started the engine rebuild

I finally started tearing my engine down to do the rebuild. Originally i was just gonna do a H/C/I install but a rod started knocking so i guess its time for a rebuild.

Im going to be putting on AFR 185's, a Edelbrock Performer 2 intake, a CC xe282hr cam and 24# injectors. The only thing being done to the bottom end is a high volume oil pump other than new bearings, rings and seals. Not sure if Im going to have to notch the pistons yet though.

Im also going to be installing a Tremec 3550 and a new bellhousing and shifter.

Ill post pics so yall can see how its going.

Any advice or help is appreciated.

Wish me luck :p

I got the engine torn down and my brother noticed a small crack on one of the water jackets right above the cylinder.

My dad magnafluxed it and we saw this

Is it common for a crack to be there? Do i absolutely have to get a new block?

there's absolutely no point in using a high volume oil pump unless you're running looser tolerances in your bearings. not to mention it puts more stress on your cam and distributor gears, shortening the life expectancy of both. and you'll have to get a hardened pump shaft if you do too. just get a standard volume melling, i believe the part number is m68. other than that, looks like it's going to be a fun build! good luck with your block issue, regardless, i would never run a block with a crack in it. you can pick one up for a couple hundred bucks.

update:

Havent done squat in the past week and a half because my heads are at the machine shop. I didnt know that they had to be converted from pedestal to stud mount but those are gonna be done in about a week. Im also working on getting my pistons notched for the 2.02 valves.

Ill update again when i get my heads back and pistons notched.

me and my dad checked the ptv clearance the other day and its horrible.
both the intake and the exhuast hit the piston. im still workin on getting a hold of machine shops but most of them are still closed for the freakin holidays

my dad restored the t bird for my mom. its a 58 with a 352 tri power.
