Why does everyone bash the Cobra intake?

Sure, it may not be right for a 500hp track car, but it can, in the right combo produce 400hp. It has been done many times in feature cars and i am sure on this board..

Plus, IMO it is THE best looking intake ever!

If you want more out of your Cobra intake, send it to Tmoss! I just got mine back and i will say he does very good work!

And when it actually goes on my car, i am sure i can work it a little more to get it to perform the way i need it.

I have a visually modified Explorer intake and think it's been great for my car. There's always a better intake somewhere, but, there's nothing wrong with the Cobra intake at all. Many Stang know it alls from the Mustang publications say it's one of the best for a mildly built street engine.

I don't know, i just love the look! There is really only one intake that is better looking, the Gt40 tube.

I hope to put down 325 to the wheels with a refreshed bottom 306, AFR's, 10:1 and all supporting mods with my Cobra. and to get over 400, i will just add 5-6lbs of boost.

IMO the GT40 tube upper is the best looking intake on a Mustang that I have ever seen.

I like the Cobra intake and it certainly performs well. So I have no reason to bash it. I think that a lot of the bashing has to do with the new ones that are make in China by children.

Ill have to agree there, the tubular gt40 intake looks nasty. One of my favs is the Holley Systemax

I've never heard anyone bash the Cobra intake, cept if they wanted loads of power. That ain't what its for, though, and that should be pretty well understood. My stock intake is a TMoss piece, and I expect a Cobra intake done up by them aughta be fantastic!

I have a replica cobra intake. I will bash it for two reasons. The first is the baffle that it came with wasn't large enough so the PCV was sucking oil, about 1 quart 300 miles. Luckily I was rebuilding my motor again when I found out the fix of having ford racing send a new larger one. That problem is probably what made my first rebuild go to crap. The second reason I don't like it is that a part on the dizzy will hit on the lower intake manifold near the large radiator hose hook-up. It makes stabbing the dizzy hard and tuning hard too. And the casting looks like crap. Besides that it works fine haha.

As for a genuine cobra intake I have had zero experience.

+1 on the china thing

It also might be because the Cobra/GT40 intake is viewed as the baseline intake when comparing to aftermarket options. People usually want to think what they have is better because they paid more for it. They are insecure about their intakes and want to feel better about spending the $600+ :)

I've never heard anyone "bash" the cobra intake on here other than the poor quality of the china made ones. I have an original one on my car and it works great! No clearance issues with the dizzy, although I do have a small oil consumption issue. If you look at any intake comparison chart, you'll see it flows just as well if not better than pretty much all other intakes up to about 4-4.5k. Can't argue with real figures

My exact experience. I wouldn't recommend it. I offed mine when I got my GT40.

I think the Cobra intake is an awesome street car intake as well. I have an original one of a '93 cobra that i just powdercoated and put a new sticker on so it looks better then new now lol. But i'll be putting out 400rwhp through it this spring when the car gets tuned. I also think it is the best looking intake besides the Systemax II. :nice:

I do like the Cobra/GT-40/Explorer intakes, they flow great and make awesome mid-range torque for a mild 302. They all are good looking, but for some reason the Explorer is my favorite in terms of looks. I had the chance to get a Cobra upper, but I went for the Explorer... I dunno, I just think its sexy. The GT-40s are way overpriced.

But for my money, the SEXIEST intakes on the market are the Trick Flow R-Series:

I think the issue here is, if you don't have to, then why run it? Why pay to buy it and then pay to have it ported if you can buy something else that works better without porting, which you can then have ported to work even better?

This works with a lot of parts....like why bash GT40P heads when they can make decent power? Well if you can get something better, why run stock parts?
