We finally got my nitrous lined out tonight, so we go out for a test drive. The bottle pressure is at 1000psi. I do a 3rd gear pull and the car is pulling really hard. I decide to run threw the gears from 2nd, i nail it in 2nd and go to hit third and boom. It starts sounding like an exhaust leak and it has a dead miss. We pull the number 1 plug out and it has the entire top burnt off, we change all the plugs, still has a miss. We change the coil pack, still has a miss. Long story short we did alot of test and everything had the same result, dead miss. So i go and get a compression test gauge and sure enough, 10psi in cylinder 1. It already has a forged crank so im keeping it. I think im going to put some good rod bearing and buy some forged pistons that will bump the compression up a little, get my machine work done and maybe throw some cams in it. I would buy heads but i dont have that kind of money.

Jesus, everyone is building new shortblocks now (ironically mostly nitrous guys). Am i the only one who builds up BEFORE the poweradder? I guess if it doesnt ruin the block or heads you're not losing anything that wouldn't be replaced anyways though.

Keep us updated, man!

We only had a 100 shot on it. Had 2 degrees of timing out of it also. I dont see why it would have put a hole in the piston. It just doesnt make sense, there isnt a v-8 out there that can't handle a 100 shot (well aparantly there is now! haha)

What fuel pump are you running? What jets? Did you remove the performance tune and then pull 2* or pull 2* from the performance tune?

maybe you had the wrong fuel jet or fuel pump is not working right..... also i always step up a little the fuel jet so if the kit says put a 34 for fuel i put a 36. remember its better to be rich then lean lol

it had a 34 fuel jet and a 51 nitrous jet. It was running on the stock fuel pump that was replaced about 40k miles ago. The timing was set at stock. Do you think that the fact i was running a platinum plug might have had something to do with it? I found a teksid aluminum block, cobra forged crank, forged H beams, and forged pistons. I also got a set of hogged out PI heads. Believe it it not ( i believe it because i saw the flow charts) these heads flow a little over 250cfm @550. He said he has about $1500 in port work in them. Im also going to buy a set of cams, do you think i still should go with the HiTechs or should i step it up a little bit to a bigger cam with that much flow and a 150 shot?

first we need more info...you say you "nailed it in 2nd" what RPM did you nail it from? 1k? 2?

there is no way you should have blown the motor on the first test runs on a 100shot unless a) your motor was already poop
b) you installed in wrong
c)your timing wasnt stock
d)you shot the juice too low in the revs

and yes, get rid of plat. plugs, run 1-2 steps COLDER copper plugs.

also, dont go messing around and mix matching jet sizes either, you'll either get it wrong or run so rich that you make less power than you would on a smaller shot in the first place.

i've run probably over 150 30# bottles of straight 125 shot with NO tune and no fuel system upgrades through my motor with ZERO issues. n20 is safe for an engine as long as it is properly setup and run.

I would bet the fuel pump wasn't sufficient. You already had a good number of mods, probably taking you to around 300 at the crank. Then, add 100hp of nitrous and the stock fuel pump just couldn't supply enough fuel.

the only real power mods he has when he is on n20 is the hpipe, plenum and TB, he's nowhere near 300 at the crank and even then a 100shot isnt going to bump him over the fuel limits

i'm running- demolet intake, plenum/tb, pulleys, prochamber and catback as my power mods and i'm not near 300crank HP on motor and i run a 125 shot that makes 376hp at the wheels and have no issues..

it comes down to something wasn't right, either motor was already dying, n20 wasn't installed right, sprayed too low ect...

I was at 3500rpm when i sprayed it both times. I didnt miss match the jets, that's how summit racing sent them to me. No as for it being installed right that's where in my opinion something went wrong. I didnt install this kit, i dont know how to install nitrous. I took it to a friend of mines shop and dropped it off for him to do it. Everything looked fine but where the shark nozzle is located at. He put it on the throttle body, like he drilled into my throttle body and that's where he mounted the nozzle. I had asked him if that was to close and he said "No man it's fine, that just means it will hit harder". We argued about it and argued about it and finally he said "Fine lets go make this nitrous pass and then we will move it". Well you know the rest of the story after that.

where in the TB did he drill it? i dont know that it would cause failure having it drilled there UNLESS the nozzle obstructed the butterfly from opening and that cause all the n20 and fuel to go in but not enough air, but i can imagine you'd be able to tell something like that was happening before you sprayed it...

how many miles are on the car, it is possible that your engine was getting weak and the extra power just sent it over the edge.
