hey guys,

i have a 66 coupe and the cowl leaks water when i wash it. this car is just a occasional weekend driver, never gets driven in the rain. my question is, is it really neccesary to fix the cowl? is it a structural component? i love driving my car, and i dont' really want to tear it all apart to fix the cowl if i don't really have to.

The cowl forms a torque box joining the sides of the car together. If it's just a few pinholes, forget it, just be careful when cleaning. If its rotted out, you need to fix it. Eventually, you will want it fixed, but since it doesn't sit out, take your time. Someday, though, that 10% chance of rain will get you…

My car's cowl has leaked off and on since I have had it. It is not rusted out. I'm not really sure whats leaking.

For now I have decided not to worry about it too much. My car stays in the garage almost all the time.

I have this cowl cover. It is very nice and flexible, has stainless knobs, and has neoprene on it. It has a liftetime warranty too. I had a different one before and I think that this one is better.

If you remove the heater box or the driver side fresh air vent you can look to see if it is rusted badly or not.

This is also available to repair the cowl if it is not in really bad shape.
