I now have ported gt40ps tfs 1 cam and edelbrock performer intake and full exhaust.Im running stock pulleys and stock mas air sensor and throttle body.Would switching to the explorer tb be a noticeable gain?

I would say an aftermarket MAF meter and a throttle body would be a noticeable gain for you, as both of those are choking your setup.

If you can front the money for it, I'd skip the 65mm Explorer unit and go straight for an aftermarket 70mm or 75mm TB. A 65mm TB is really to small IMHO, you'll only end up limiting yourself with it in the future as you expand and add more go-fast parts. Besides that, a TB should be at least as big as the opening on your intake allows, and I ASSume that intake is a 70-75mm opening.

For the MAF, bigger is better. You just want that to be the least amount of restriction as possible. I run a 97mm MAF on my car.
 
Alright sounds good.Was hopeing to hear that the stocker is holding me back some.All i plan to do is maybe spray it with a 100-150 shot.I also heard that mark 8 mafs work?But i have to use 24lb injectors?Idk think ill just stick to the 94-95 maf and then get an anderson racing power pipe and call it a day.
 
well took it for a ride with just the throttle body still running stock maf.Seems to pull to redline now.Before it felt like it didnt have anything past 5k rpms.happy for a free mod.Well cost me .60cents because i lost the tps screws.
 
The Performer intake has a 70mm opening so I think you should have a TB that's 70mm or bigger. I have the same intake but since I have a 75mm TB, I ported the intake opening to 75mm and used a TFS 75mm elbow.
 
Here's what happens when you get into the monster TB route on a small displacement engine. The TB is bigger, so every degree it opens passes more air than the same number of degrees for a stock TB: that's the plan and it does work that way. However, it makes the engine jumpy when you drive it traffic. The small increase in RPM you need to start off smoothly or creep through traffic is now a big jump. You can end up looking like you are a Bozo just learning how to drive a manual shift transmission!:lol:
 
FWIW, there are guys who get 90mm TBs to work well on 302s, even on the street. I'm not sure what, if any, considerations (tuning?) are involved in making that work well, but it has been done. I intend to find out, though, because my car will have a 90mm in the near future.
 
What should i put it at for base timing?Right now i have it at 16* but think im gonna back it off 2* as when im driving at 2100rpms i can hear a slight miss fire.also im on 93 octane.
 
I understand how that works with an electronically managed TB. How is it done with mechanical linkage that works the the stock linkage?
It's done mechanically via the linkage itself...

The link you posted above shows the underside of the 65mm TB from the exploder... By changing the mechanical pivot points in the linkage, you can vary the throttle angle change in relation to the pedal input from the driver.



EDIT:
This is why guys are able to run 90mm TB's on 302 engines... and be happy with the results.
The larger TB's are simply designed to give finer control of throttle angle at low pedal inputs.
 
you know what sucks.My car feels really strong when i first turn it on let it idle for 5mins.THen i take it for a spin.But then when i drive in traffic for a bit 30mins later it feels like it lost a decent amount of power.Hmmm heat?its not over heating either.

Yeah emmission related as i pulled all that stuff but i left the egr plugged in.ALso im thinking about buying these underdrive pulleys i just picked up a sn95 maf.Car feels good now,i took of my e.t street drag tires and put on my stock 235 tires that my lincoln came with.And wow 1st gear is useless even from a 10mph roll and if im rolling in 2nd gear and floor it around 5k rpms it breaks it loose a tid bit.Im still at 14* timming.

Heres the underdrive pulleys im thinking about buying.All i have right now is water pump and alternator would i see a gain if any?Its the "race" pulley kit my idle is at 950 to 1k rpms and i never drive below 1800rpms the tfs 1 cam dosent like anything to low cruising.
