Ok guys here's what going on. I have a friend that pretty much is getting into the mustang scene. He bought his first mustang about a yr ago (I think maybe his first sports car period)
Well here lately he has been on this hp kick. What he's telling me is he like to build a turbo motor that right at 550-600 hp. Well the lucky SOB found a slightly use FRPP Boss 302 block for a steal. He only gave 800 for it. And yes before you all start saying its not real I have seen it with my own eyes. It is a true Boss 4 bolt main 302 block. Done been to the shop and everything checked out.
Ok so your saving to your self "he's got a great start" not so much. He asked me the other night how much hp would the stock rotating assembly. Well I told him I had no clue. He knows that the stock block will only take 500 and that's taking a chance. Well he wants to put the stock stuff out the motor in the car in the boss block. He said that he's been looking to see the hp limits are and can not find anything but for the block. I told him not to put that old cast junk in that block but I don't really have any facts to back up not putting them in there. So unless I can come up with some good reason why not to use them he is going to put a nice block to waste. Any of you guys have some facts or maybe even some experience with high hp and stock parts.

Well, he's not "wasting" it...he's just not using it to its full potential. One thing I will recommend to your friend is to do it right the first time if he is gonna do something. This hobby gets expensive very quickly. So unless he is on a budget build and figured he'd spring for the block since it was such a steal, I'd say he should take his time and buy quality parts.

Well not using it to it fullest is a ware to me lol. I've told him that but he says that he don't want to put tins of money just for a play thing. I think it's more of a bragging right and a light to light thing. I've even tried to buy it from him for 1000 and he's not coming off of it.

I think that he needs to sell the block if he's not gonna use it as it's intended. The fact that he's spent 800.00 for a Boss block that he wants to transfer his stock rotating assy into is ludicrous given that he doesn't intend to spend "tins of money just for a plaything".
Why does he even need a better block in the first place? If there are no plans to modify the existing combination past it's potential, (again not spending all that money) why even bother?

Your friend doesn't need help,...he needs a Honda.

I agree with madmike1157...and I'll further say that I don't think your friend understands how this all works. See, he already wasted a good deal of money buying a block for $800. What he's doing doesn't make any sense really. If he's gonna use stock internals then he could've bought a stock 302 block for a few hundred dollars cheaper than the $800 he spent. And I also don't think he's aware that he won't be able to use the stock internals if the block has been bored. You said it's been to the shop...so if they machined it then he's gotta buy pistons at the very least.

Tell him to take his time, do some research, and figure out what he wants to do. Because he's gonna end up spending a lot more money doing it the wrong way than he will by just doing it correctly the first time. Also consider the fact that he's gonna spend more time and money having the stock engine pulled, disassembled, transferred to the Boss block, and then installed. The money he thinks he's saving using stock parts will get used up in labor costs...and even if he does save some money it will be insignificant when comparing the quality of parts.

If he's new to all this then he needs to take advice from people who know and are willing to help. And if he doesn't wanna listen to your advice then you're better off just letting him make his mistakes.

Ok guys I've got him thinking twice about putting in the stock stuff. He's now thinking about making a forged 347 with the block and shoot for about 500 on just motor. But he's still wanting to get the motor in his car fast so maybe I can keep him calm so he can do it right. Thanks guys

Given that your user name is Dracula spelled backwards, I'm starting to think that your "friend" is actually a third person version of you.
Well,..........are you?.....ADMIT IT!!!:D

No it's not me I'm about to place my order for a short block thur fordstrokers.com. And I'm going to go with a 331 not a 347. Trust me if I had that block I wouldn't be on here I be driving it around by now with the right parts.

Keep it simple, ask your friend how fast he wants to go and what his budget really is. hell, you could yank an explorer motor for cheap, throw a fogger on it and make your goals easy. Wouldn't last long, but this is just for bragging rights yeah? "I made 500hp, for about a month"
