it may or may not already have a diode to dampen the electrical surge. Adding one is cheap insurance - less than $2 and not hard to do.
So Radio Shack unfortunately didn't have the 1N4003 in stock, but they had the 1N4004, so I picked up a pack of two.
Will the 1N4004 work for this application?
It looks like the clear difference between the two is PV. Here are the specs:
- 1N4003: 30A surge; Peak Inverse Voltage (PV)=200
- 1N4004: 30A surge; Peak Inverse Voltage (PV)=400
The 1N4004 also includes specs for If (1A Max) and Vf (1.1V@1A), but I can't find that info on the 1N4003.
Thanks!
