I had a similar problem. I cleaned my IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. I've had no issues since. Cleaning the IAC valve is really easy. Do a Google search for instructions.

I want to clean my PCV valve before my smog test on my 2001 Mustang GT. Where is it? Both valve covers have a place for one. The passenger side has a hose going to the throttle body. The driver side has a hose going to the air intake.

I cleaned it with carb cleaner(B12-Chemtool)
