Are longtubes "free" torque or is the torque a result of better flow?

Hi guys. The title says it all. I am running mac 1 5/8 longtubes and I am wondering if the extra torque is due to wonderous exhaust pulse effects and reduced backpressure or am I now flowing extra air through the engine? I am thinking of this entierely from a mileage perspective.

Duraspark box: When powered up, should case be HOT?

We noticed last night that when the key is in the ON position, the duraspark box heats up so much, it is almost too hot to touch. I dont know if it did this before the spark incident where I grounded the main + wire running inside the cabin since I wasnt paying attention to it at the time. It...

Wiring a heater box from scratch. I dont have any oem plugs....I need some plug diags

Hello all! In my quest to roll the old girl back to normality, I decided to put actual honest to goodness real heat back in the cabin so I can defrost my windows and not freeze to death in winter. My friend Rick Menard provided me the full heater box with the colored vacuum tubing (got the...

Does the mustang have a wire that is hot key-on AND start? Wiring ignition sys.

When last I wired and looked for it, I could not find one. Since I only had key-on hot, I had to wire the ignition system directly to the battery with a switch inbetwen. This amuses my friends cause I can take the key out while the car is moving and engine still runs but it is kind of ghetto and...

Super stuck oil filter! WTF! I've now crushed the end down 2 wrench sizes.

I did not change the filter on the last hurried oilchange and the oil change intervals were higher than I usuually go for.... and now, I go to change the filter and it wont budge. I mean this thing is stuck. The s8a wrench crushed the end. No problem, I think, pull out my import wrench. That...

    Mustang snowmobile!

It you know what you're doing then driving in the snow is no problem at all. So this morning, I had to climb a hill in the mustang to get to the train station. The moment I made the left onto the street with the hill, I knew it was a mistake. They had not plowed it yet and there was a good few...

Gotta love new england! My throttle was frozen shut this morning. Had to use choke.

So I get out this morning to drive to work...key wont go in....my locks are frozen. No problem....walk around and the passenger side lock is still operable. Crawl in and plunk down. Go to give it gas and the pedal feels really stiff. I get out, pull the aircleaner and the cable seems to be...

Storing a car outside: How to save the brakes elegantly.

Good day fellow mustang enthusiasts! I am approaching the time when I need to take the stang off the road and store it. Alas, there is no garage available so it needs to sit outside. Now the underside and frame are well preserved :D:D Only problem I have found with parking cars outside for...

How much could I ask for this car?

Good evening fellow enthusiasts.... Seems like a lot of folks are getting tired of their cars lately. I guess I will add myself to the list. I just got myself a nice new daily driver (saab 9000) and I'm pleased to be able to hear after getting out of the car, not inhaling gas fumes and having a...

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

So yesterday morning, I went to the dyno for my first ever "official" run of the car on a dyno to see what all my years of hard work and toil and money have achieved. I had read that carcraft article about running afr165's and a stock cam with nothing but 1.7 roller rockers, a dual plane...

So how do you know when to give up?

I feel like I've been doing nothing since february but fixing little problem after little problem and spending thousands of dollars (little things add up real quick!). In the end I still have an unreliable and rather rough looking and feeling car. I could easily have bought a new car on the...

Can those repair station inspection dynos do actual hp/torque curves?

I wasnt looking for actual dyno tuning and I feel the car is running pretty close to it's potential right now. I've finished my auto building project and I just wanna know what hp and torque it makes right now so I can thump myself on the chest and say I own a 350 rwhp car. I was thinking a...

Has anyone used holley projection 4 or a newer 950 cmdr?

With my recent carb troubles.....I've been giving thought to an aftermarket TBI unit that just drops right in place of the carb and keeps the enginebay nice and tidy and keeps me from having to drop the fueltank and run a retrun line and size injectors and mafs....etc. I have been looking...

If the balancer ring spins...would the engine vibrate?

I'm trying to figure out why it seems that my car needs 24-30 degrees initial timing to run properly but backfires and barely stumbles along at 10. Thinking I could have spun my balancer based on some searches on the subject. Wouldnt a spun balancer shake like crazy because of the counterweight?

Carbed in MA: Failed Emm(HC:2/1.2 CO:27.37/20) Need tips!

Hi all. I'm trying to get this beastie past emissions in massachussetts. She passed everything else with flying colors. They didnt say anything about the grease either  . They even looked past my fake pcv and charcoal cannister. I attached the emissions sheet. It failed for hc...

Batt Q: 200A fuse survives on "+" terminal so starter draws <200A?

Hi folks! To make the story short....been looking at getting into racing with this thing and the ihra trunk mounted battery rules make my brain hurt. They want a sealed battery box (extra $50) with jbolts welded or bolted through floorpan = 2 holes and a remote disconnect switch = 1 more...

How efficient are TCI streetfighter torque converters?

Hi folks. In light of recent gas prices, I've taken to downjetting and pumping up the tires, using acetone and giving the old gal a good tune up. Even with 56/58 jetting and a 5.0 powervalve, the gas milage is terrible, low teens, a bit too low considering I'm only NA and the package is...

Anyone ever taken an IRS rear apart for a gear install

Actually, this is for the mustang's very big sister, an IRS equipped 93 thunderbird LX (302ho of course). I am thinking of tackling this project myself but it's mighty busy down there. Lots of control arms and suspension pivot points and brackets and braces. I dont even know how one goes about...

Can someone post a picture of a "ripped" torque box?

I've been searching the threads and all the pictures have been taken down. I'm examineing my torque boxes and the section in front of them with the oval opening has a small split in it. I wanna see what a "ripped torque box" looks like so I can see if this is indeed what I have. Thanks guys! Pete
