Need help on getting my ignition cylinder to lock into ignition switch assembly. Even ordered both parts new and can’t get them to lock either.

There is a "button" that must be depressed while turning the switch to both remove the old cylinder and install the new:

I do remember when I replaced mine that the old one came out easier than the new one went in. It takes a little more fooling with it.
