3.73's and T-5, what RPM on highway?

i haven't driven my car in a while, but i will be soon...

in overdrive, you'll be tachin' over 2 grand for sure, i wanna say around 2300 but i could be way off, lol.

if you're debating on getting some 3.73s, and the only thing stopping you is thinking your MPH will go down the drain, don't worry about it.

it isn't that bad at all.

With a stock size tire (225/60R15; 235/55R16; 245/45R17; 275/40R17; 315/35R17) which is around 25.7" tall, you wil be taching around 2500RPM. Not bad at all, I've done some long highway drives with no problems.

Ok, when I bought my car the guy had already put on mac headers, flowmaster cat back, K&N fliter and 3.73 gears. The rest of the stuff in the signiture I did myself. So, the reason why I asked is because at 70mph on the freeway I run at like 2500 rpm's. Thats with 245/45/17 tires. But the tech calculator is telling me I dont have 3.73 gears. I have always been curious and just wanted to make sure the person I bought this car from didnt lie to me. So thank you 90mustangGT!

Maybe because you speedo gear is still off, and you are really going about 52 miles an hour? Its funny because my friend who got 373s a while ago was boasting about how he got over 230 miles on a full tank of gas, until we reminded him that he was really getting more like 190. I found this calculator on corral I think, and it seems to work pretty good. corral gear calc

i remembered this thread while i was on the freeway a couple days ago. i have 373's, the correct or as correct as possible speedo gears, and 225 55 16 kumho tires. my tires measure 24 &3/4 inches tall, their not bald but far from new, at about 65ish my stock tach read about 2200, if thats too much for you you can easily reduce it a little with slightly taller or hell in my case newer tires. traffic was starting to move fast and for a minute i had it up to about 90 mph, didnt look at the tach but it was still easily cruising and had lots and lots left in her..........

tire size might be why my RPM is so diffenent from what others posted

i have 3.73s in my car, cruisin the highway down to philly to go street racing(hehe) lets see.. with my 245/50/16 street tires at 2000 rpm in 5th gear i am going about 62 mph. keep in mind this is with the not so accurate stock tach. at 90mph my tach is at exactly 3000 rpm... i had my car at 5000rpms in 5th the other night(right before i got pulled over :( )... anybody know how fast that is?

Mayer5oh,
I too am at 3000 rpm in 5th gear going 90mph. So I guess my RPM is fine then right? Because if I put 300 rpm in the corral tech cac, it tells me that with 3.73's my speed is like 90. something. Thanks for all the replies fellas!

3.73 rear end gears with 225 –60R15 tires

Cruse on the highway at 65 MPH in 5th gear
Engine RPM: 2162.
Vehicle Speed: 65

1st gear
Engine RPM: 5200
Vehicle Speed: 32.

2nd gear
Engine RPM: 5200
Vehicle Speed: 53.

3rd gear
Engine RPM: 5200
Vehicle Speed: 79

4th gear

Any response that doesn't include which gear you are in & which tire size you have is virtually worthless.

I have a 90 GT with 3.73's and 275/50R15's and in 5th it turns about 2000 at about 65 mph I think. I know that at 74-75 mph it's turning about 2400-2500 rpm.
