I stopped by a Ford Dealership on my way home today to pick up an ACT for my stang and there was a 07 shelby 500 vert in the showroom marked up to 68K. I was drooling over it( I intend to buy one when they get closer to sticker)when a salesperson walked up. He introduced himself as the sales manager. I spoke briefly with him, then said look, I will gladly order one from you guys when they come down close to sticker and handed him a buisness card. He looked at me like I was insane and said "what, you mean sell it to you for MSRP?" I said not right now, but in 6 or 8 months when they came down. He handed my card back to me and said it will never happen, they'll stay at 20K markup and he'll sell them like that. I politly told him if he was that arrogent he would never get my buisness and walked out. I was just rather appalled at his attitude and arrogance. When I buy one it sure as hell won't be from him.

No business sense. You never insult a customer like that. He could have had a card of a solid buyer. He has no crystal ball. He won't last.

Some dealers are already selling the Shelby GT at sticker.
And Ford wonders why the company is in trouble????

Yeah he could have tried to work you into a car and still maybe coax you into an extra 2 or 3k. When that car is sitting there costing them interest and his numbers aren't coming in he'll regret it.

My sales guy was decent. I came in and looked at a late 05 and wanted to buy but couldn't swing it at the time and he politely followed up every month or so, let me know what was happening (new 06's in, come take a look) etc etc. I'd drop in now and again and 11 months later when I was ready to buy I went right to him.

The dealer here wants 73K for their GT500 vert, but was willing to take off the 10K mark up on the Shelby GT and sell it at MSRP to get rid of it.

I would have gladly told him "I tell you what, when I get one for MSRP, I'll roll back here w/ the purchase order and I show you what a fool you are". Then proceed to do a smokey burnout while on my way out of the lot.

Don't really get it, I know two dealerships right off the bat here in Jersey that are selling GT500's for MSRP, probably because they can't move them being insurance and state troopers are so intimadating

I guess that there is no chance of him selling you a Focus for Kids or a 500 for your mom after that either.

When I worked at a Ford Stealership (MEDVED FORD IN CASTLE ROCK COLORADO), I can honestly say that the dealers absolutely *****ty service drove so many people away, that they not only tossed the 10k markup, but were begging people to buy their 03 Cobras. They had at least 15 sitting around well into 2004! They'll drop the prices again, trust me.

The mark ups will only last thru the summer, after that, once the first cold day sets in, it's over for the Gt500 and Shelby. It's actually been over for the Shelby for some time now, like the day it rolled off the assembly line! The bullitt is crap too, 312hp, lol..

WOW 12 FREAKING HORSEPOWER! That **** will run tens yo!

Ford dealers are by far the worst, they don't get it. Their problems are not isolated to the cars they produce, but rather the lack of respect for customers.

I went into a Dealership to check out the Shelby GT and they didn't have one I asked a salesman if he had one and he said there was a list and If I ordered it wold take over 18 months to get it. He never did say anything about a markup though. I guess he didn't want to **** me off since he did not have any shelby's.
I did say that I had an '05 that I wanted to trade and I caught him peeking around the corner as I left.

That is a very short sighted sales manager.

BTW ford is not in trouble because of markups on low production cars. They are in trouble because they make most of there money on SUV's and trucks and those things are not selling. So far the Fusion has been a HUGE success and hopefully the new Focus in a few months will help too..

Low profit high cost limited production mustangs is not going to save ford

I'll agree that I hate most dealers. They are useless in general.

But, I have to put in a good word for the dealer I bought mine from. Good guy, and gave me the car for $1,700 under invoice! Granted, it is a GT with very few options, but I still bought it for less than they bought it for. I'd buy from them again, just for the good service.

Don't worry though, if they're that arrogant, they'll realize it soon enough. On the other hand though, you can't really blame them. Regardless of what they price them, there will always be some idiot willing to pay it, just to "show off his money". It may take a few more months, but it wouldn't surprise me if it sells. Just as Barnum said.... "There's a sucker born every minute"....

You are correct that limited edition Mustangs won't make or break Ford. But we also buy other vehicles. I have had a Sport Trac and several Rangers. My daughter has had several Focuses and now drives a Fusion. My wife has had a Taurus, an Escape and now drives a Mariner.
A dealer who pisses someone off may not only lose a Mustang sale but also sales of other vehicles either now or in the future. And that is a loss of his bread and butter.
