My buddy's got some questions he wanted me to ask... He already put replaced his o/r pipe with the stock h-pipe. Now he wants to know if the BBK fuel pressure regulator will fail. If it will, could he cover it up? I hear it fails the visual test.. He also has a K&N Dense Charger CAI (to inside the fender) but since it's just routed differently and no lines/wires have been modified, I think that's okay. Last, can he leave on his mufflers with dumps? Or does he have to get some stockers from the junkyard? (dumps may affect the exhaust probe in the smog check?) Thanks for any help
The BBK FPR will be okay. I'm not sure about the dumps. They're not legal in California if they dump before the rear axle. I don't think the the smog tech would appreciate having to crawl under the car either.
I had my car smogged with dumps but the smog guy made me climb under the car and put the sniffer in the muffler..
Actually the AFPR is not legal, and you can be busted for it if you have a sharp-eyed smog tech. Next time I get my car smogged I'm going to put a little rubber plug over the adjustment screw and hope it will be camouflaged enough!
Yeah Scott, that's why I was asking where he is. I have a guy near me that doesn't get all stupid about the visual, just looks for cats, checks the gas cap, and does the sniffer test. The fact that the one dude was willing to overlook the dumps is pretty funny.
I pased with the underdrive pullies and T/A on. Hopefully I'll pass with dumps the next time I have to get smogged.
It's 50/50 if you will have a problem or not. I have a '96 GT with an Allen Engine Development supercharger kit on it. It has the CARB-EO plaque rivited right on the side of it. The smog techs get all cross-eyed and check everything else with a fine toothed comb. In my case I'm sure dumps would not fly. Incidently, after they run the test, they comment on how clean it runs. I had a manager of a shop tell me that if they open up the hood and see "a bunch of chrome stuff" they close it up and send the car on its way. The reasoning is the car is "messed with". So you can get pretty tight a$$ed techs here.
