didnt know where the hell else to post this since theres no individual appearance forum...anyways.............wonderin if anyone here knows if 01 headlights can be opened up and orange lens can be removed without damaging the inner plastic ........i think it would be a good DIY mod and cheaper than buying new headlights.........the inner bezels can even be painted to match the car color or whatever color u prefer......ive done this on my 03 tiburon and wanted to do it on my freinds stang.........anyone know if its possible? thanx

Yes it's possible. I've seen it done. But the trick is trying to seal them up tightly again so that they don't fog up on humid days.

Also, keep in mind removing the amber reflectors will make the car fail inspections..depending on how thoughough they are in your state.

sealing em back up im not worried about.....some sealant will reseal it just fine.........or u can actually heat them up a little(heat gun, heater, oven) and the old sealent should re seal fine.

amber reflectors dont worry me either......swap the old bulb with a bright orange bulb and thats legal.........as long as it blinks orange its legal here...

so 5Ls you say u seen it done the only thing im wonderin is when u remove that inner orange lens....is it like Superglued to the inside of the headlight or does it come off easy with no damage....thanx for replying

Yes, but when the lights are off, the car must reflect amber as well if lights are shined at it. It's to identify the front and rear of a vehicle when parked. It's a federal regulation, not a state thing. Of course, it rarely gets enforced anywhere these days, but just trying to clear up the misconception that slapping an orange bulb in clear corners will make you 100% legal.

The inner orange potion is sorta tack-glued to the outside edge of the lens. If you take your time, you can break loose the glue and take it out. The lens is clear where the orange is, you shouldn't see anything left over really when you are done.

I think theres still a write up and pics on fnsweet.com

For some reason I remeber it was dodgy with the smoked lights... You can get clear cornered smokes on ebay. They say they are fully legal. You can also buy bulbs that are silver and go yellow when lit.

    Happy New Year

yes indeed i know....thats the whole point of this threead to save some bucks from buying the new lights and doing a nice little project like this...and yea i have the blueish silver bulbs that blink orange......also this would be great for someone who wanted to paint the inner bezels where its all chrome......for example on a red stang if the inner blezels were painted to match the car it would look sickkk

thanx ghost im glad u like em.....and yes the orange on my car is a huge clear lens....and so far no fogging problems whatsoever after opening up the lights.....popped em in the oven for a good 10 minutes and pried em apart.....then painted the inner bezels black and then reheated and sealed again.... :nice:
