Chassis Detailing a '66 GT350

I am restoring a '66 GT350. I have the car disassembled to the point where the front sheetmetal, front suspension, and the drivetrain have been removed from the car. I plan to detail the undercarriage.

Should I remove all of the old seam sealer and undercoating and reapply? I can't just paint over old undercoating, can I?

As it stands I plan to take digital pictures before stripping so I can reapply the new undercoating in a similar pattern. Strip it down. Apply a heavy duty primer similar to Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator. Apply undercoating and seam sealer. Finally adding a coat or two of Eastwood Chassis black over the entire surface.

Basically, a 66 GT-350 is still a Mustang built in San Jose, California, so follow the correct practices for that production. No Undercoating from the factory. Then, Shelby American Added thier modifications, so you need to be aware of those special things.

I have a mustang from Milpitas/San Jose plant, it has a reddish undercoating applied. I thought that was specific to San Jose, am I more confused than normal?

That "reddish" stuff is primer,most of these cars had very little undercoating but lots of seam sealer.

Yea, no undercoating on my '66. It was also DSO'd for San Jose on top of being built there.

my 65, dearborn car/ atlanta dso had very little undercoating, mostly in the rear wheelwells. correct me if im wrong, (im SURE someone will!) but i thought shelbys were void of factory undercoating

The Early cars (65-67) indeed had none.

My early '65 has enough undercoating for 3 cars..DSO St. Louis...could be dealer/other applied
