    Hello all,

I had a check engine light on and got a code reader. The code that came from the KOEO test was error code 14. In the book it says "The Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) has detected an intermittent loss of Profile Ignition Pick-Up (PIP) signal during recent operation." Can anyone explain what that means, and how to possibly go about trouble shooting it? The check engine light only comes on after driving the car for a while. Once it comes on the car seems to run normal. Thanks.

The PIP is the sensor in the bowl of the distributor.

Is it possible to replace the sensor, or do I have to replace to whole distributor?

14 - Profile Ignition Pickup Circuit Failure (M)

Since the PIP signal is "routed" through the ICM before sending it to the ECM, the code could also be caused by a faulty TFI module.

Code 14 - Ignition pickup (PIP) was erratic – the hall effect sensor in the distributor is failing. Bad sensor, bad wiring, dirty contacts. You have to press the distributor gear off the shaft to replace the sensor. The pip signal is used for ignition timing and fuel injector timing.

Most guys just end up replacing the distributor with a reman unit for about $75 exchange

So I finally got the TFI module replaced, unfortunately I still have the check engine light. I guess that means its the PIP, and I should go ahead and replace the distributor. Where is a good place to get one, Autozone? A stock replacement should do I would think.

Hi I have a 87 mustang that all the sudden started running real rich and started missing. Pulled the codes and it gave me the code 14. Found this post and changed the tfi and no difference so I ordered a distributor figuring it had to be the pip sensor mentioned in this post got it put in no difference pulled codes no more code 14 just get a 82 and a 11. Decieded to try to pull the codes with engine on went to rev up and it died and now I have no spark. Please help I am stumped. pulled codes again with koeo and just gives me the 82 and 11 that it did before. Thanks in advance
