gears and labor

so i take the stang to a local mechanic to put my 3:73 gears in.....guy has a pretty good name in the area....charges 35$ / hr for work. i drop the car off this morning and just got a call saying i owe him for 4 hours labor?? wtf - i have heard numerous people say 2-3 hrs tops....he said there were no problems, blah blah blah - 4 hrs. does that sound right? not much i can do but pay the guy - but it burns my ass to think he might be over charging me....dah well.

$200 for labor is about average so your still gettin a deal.

and just cuz you do it an hour doesn't mean you get charged an hour.

mechanics, bodymen etc. get paid by "book hours" stated labor rates for repairs....if it took him 8 hours you still would have paid for 4
 
I charge $250 to install gears, that really isn't a bad deal at all. Like DMAN says, to do it right and measure it all with the proper tools take a little time. If you just swap them and do not make any adjusts if needed they will be nosiy and will not last. I also fully clean it all....

Most shops are $250-300...
