So, I've read some good articles and got some advice from StangNet about upgrading to the Gen3 alternator. I purchased and installed one on to my car only to find that someone had previously tampered with the wiring for the originial alternator. The white w/black stripe wire is cut about 1 foot from the connector at the alternator. So my question now is: if I had to wire the alternator from absolute scratch, where would each connector on the alternator run to? I think I'm going to run all new wiring for this new alternator. Even if I were to rehook up the old one, its still not right anyway. Anyone here know where all the wiring runs to?

Some info in your sig would help insure that you get the right information. The wiring
changed several times between 79 and 93. That's why it is a good idea to use the sig
under the user control panel (User CP) option. It allows you to post your car year &
mods, which help greatly when troubleshooting things. No, it is not there for us to
snoop and see any "Secrets" you have hidden away under the hood. Be a good
stangnetter and update you sig for future reference & don't keep us guessing.

The following diagram is for 87-90 model cars. It may also work for other years.

Wow, great diagrams. Thank you. Now on the G3 alternator there are 5 connections. 3 where on two black/orange wires used to go. 1 where I think the white/black goes. Then a post on the back side. Where does the third connection with the black/orange wires go? Where does the post on the back of the alternator get connected to?

With your old wiring: On the connector with the two charge wires (orange/blk), you only use the stator wire. Run it to the single post on the 3G. Now seal that OEM connector up tight and forget about it.

The regulator plug just plugs and plays as I recall.

Then connect your new big cable to the alternator stud and run it to a fuse and to the solenoid's battery lug.

Good luck.
