simple way to avoid that.. learn to work on cars.

and to anybody that wats to be a auto tech.. you can make big bucks if your good and want to work hard. Sad to say the money is in upselling, you will not make a dime trying to be the customers buddy.

today I earned about 50 dollars a hour, being flat rate I get paid by book time not by clock time, so I made 16 hours in a 8 hour day..

best I have ever done in a day was 32 hours in a 9 hour day. best I have seen done by somebody else was 47 hours in a 8 hour day. that tech that did 47 hours in one day made a little over 30 bucks per flat rate hour (i am only in the twenties)

I have no degree but have the credits of a B.S. in IT. I started out at $28K a year but for the next 7 years I was raised about $7K a year. I settled into a certain salary. I make about $45/hr now after 11 years ($90K).

If I were doing it today, I would go into Chemical Engineering. The big bucks will be there for awhile.

Unfortunately, several of our jobs are going to mexico, and even more to China. I do pretty well. Straight out of college I made around 48,500 a year, now I sit about 60,000. Graduated in '04. Not too bad for a 1 year raise.

I just graduated with a bachelors in accounting. Right now I am interviewing with companies paying around 43-45k a year. I also have a private small company offering me 48k a year. Just need to decide whether to stick with the accounting and haead toward the cpa or give this small company a shot with the option to take over the company in a year so they can retire.

I keep telling myself that this is a good problem to have, however right now it is killing me. I just don't want to give up a solid job that pays 45k a year and pays for graduate school, on the other hand you never get rich working for someone else.

    Good luck.

at LSU we had a pretty popular Chem Eng program...many went in but the graduating classes were prety slim compared to the enterring freshmen class.

a sister of a friend of mine was the only female to graduate in her class with Chem E. She is making huge bucks right now since since female engineers are a hot ticket these days--apparently.

So my advice to the OP--grow or buy some boobs and go engineering-win - win situation...
