I have a buddy that I want to run at the track eventually.

    He has an 03 coupe,
    upper plenum/throttle body
    CAI
    flowmaster exhaust
    3.73s (auto)
    frpp driveshaft
    diablosport 87/91 tune

How fast do you guys think this car is?

not as fast as your 07'. It's about a 13.8 car with a good driver being an unmodified auto. While you car is more towards the bottom 13's with traction.

just make sure you get out of the hole without spinning too bad. cut a good light and leave on the last amber bulb. If you keep it close the first 330', you'll MPH him up top with his auto and start to slowly walk him.

yea 3.73s are not the greatest gear in that auto he should have put 4.10s in it. but you will blow him out of the water. those 07 GTs are quick my bro his very first time drag racing ran an 8.9 to my 8.8 with mods and more experience racing lol. it sucked knowing he had a stock car against mine and running almost as fast.

3.73s aren't a bad setup for an auto

    It's likely a 13.8-14.1 car depending on track/weather.

werd, im glad that i didn't even go 3.90s. At the end of the track im towards the end of 3rd gear but not too winded out, just past the powerband - after PI swap n such should be perfect.

Same here, as the 3.90 was an option when it came time for me to purchase my gears. I'm glad that I went with the 3.73s as shifting hard into O/D definitely isn't a great thing to do OVER AND OVER.

I'm happy with my 3.73s, though all you'll read on the message boards is "autos HAVE TO go with 4.10s unless getting a power adder" or something such as that. :rlaugh:

nah, you can keep it in 3rd gear w/ 4.10's just you'd better have stage II cams to feel any power where the rpm's will be, but this depends on your dig, cuz w/ some traction you could be a lower speeds. Either way i'd be hating 4.10's as soon as i left the track and go onto the freeway

I went 14.1 @ 96 MPH with my heavy assed TBird with these mods: FRPP 3.73:1 Trak Lok Cobra IRS rearend, Mustang GT TC, PI Cams, PI intake, custom dual exhaust, SCT Tuner and Hoosier QT Pro's. That is similar to the Mustang in question but a heavier car.

My 05 Mustang GT has gone 13.57 @ 101 with SCT X-Cal 2, SLP LM's, MGW Shifter and MT ET Street slicks.

I have 4.30:1 in my TBird now, so I do think 3.73's are not enough gear for auto equipped cars. My TBird will do 118 MPH in 3rd at 6500 RPMs currently with those 4.30's so unless you have a power adder, you won't be running out of gear.

I just hope it will be a good race. It will be a great day if we can both get into the 13's if not at least one of us :)

Ive run 13.7/101 with my 01 auto with mods in my sig with (255/45/17 on stock rims) street tires. I think its got a 13.6xx with the right conditions. Streets I have are fairly sticky but after puttin the gears in, it spins a bit off the line.
Buddies 06 GT auto with stock gears, street tires runs consistant 13.6s-102/103
with axleback exhaust, tune, and CAI.

I think itll be a good race.

    well, best of luck!

This thread will be useless without quality pics and a good Video. Go heads up, best 2 of 3 and each of you hot lap 2 or 3 times without racing each other to get a feel for it!

Fobra, if the guy can drive, he's gonna eat ya on the top end. get out the whole without too much wheel spin, don't dump it and cut you'll cut a sub 2.00 sixty foot!

Most races like this come down to the lights. Know how the lights work and practice your R/Times on your hot laps.

    BTW, ya'll get some videos!!!!!!

Thanks, he's been practicing and getting a feel for his car so his times should improve. I figured my best chance is at the beginning of the race but at the end he will begin to walk away on me. Hope I can get out of the hole without too much wheel spin. Hopefully we'll get videos up when we do go. We're both aiming for 13's for the day so it'll be a blast.

R/T has nothing to do with time, time starts when your car moves.

Thought we were talking time, are we calling whoever passes the line first a winner regardless of time?

I was responding to winters98gt post, he was more on the actual race between me and my buddy than the time. Sorry for the mix up. I would like to get into the 13's that's my main goal but I'll also be racing my buddy at the same time. Should be a good race.
