While i had my 600cfm edelbrock carb of my performer intake i noticed the inside of my intake was yellow. Car seems to run fine. What would cause this? Good or Bad?
Im assuming its simply because of the gas...But after having it on a year i took it out while swaping heads and cleaned it. It was barely noticable but about nine months later it was way brighter. Just figured id ask to make sure it wasnt a sign my carb was leaking or something.
In all seriousness. Before I converted to EFI. I went from the 2 barrel to a 4. I got the intake used from some guy in California, and it had yellow crud on the inside. I cleaned it out and it never came back. I always thought it was from a additive in the gas.
My guess would be sulfur deposits. Sulfur is the main contaminant in gasoline. It is also what kills the catalytic converters. Don't worry it's normal.
Sounds like your intake has a case of jaundice. Not to worry - all sorts of 'earth tones' show up inside manifolds/carbs. The varnishes/deposits left by fuel and heat show up as yellow, orange, brown, etc. No problem.
